I want to give a public thanks and recognition to the Western Depot. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! What an inventory of O gauge products. But more importantly, what a phenomenal experience. I have been to a number of train stores but I never experienced anything like this. I made the 120 mile trek from my house to the store. It was well worth it and exceeded my expectations. Everyone one there was friendly and helpful. I just want to let them and everyone else they have a customer for life. I have seen the internet store and I would encourage everyone to buy from them. They are great people. Good job guys!!!!!

I've ordered online from the Western Depot on several occasions and have nothing but great things to say. I'm extremely impressed by the selection and level of service. Excellent specials are offered from time to time as well.

I believe the owner passed on fairly recently but it appears he instilled in his staff the importance of superior customer service as the tradition continues.

I like it that Western Depot keeps its web site up to date with what they have in stock.  When I call them, I can count on Western Depot having the items I am seeking.  They are a great source for locomotives I missed the first time around.  I ordered from them last summer and the salesman over the phone advised me of a spectacular photo just posted to the Internet of Kansas City Southern ES44AC 4688 giving up its prime mover.  http://www.rrpicturearchives.n...ture.aspx?id=3158450. It is clear the folks at Western Depot live and breathe this stuff as much as we do!  Apparently, the link will not display but you can see photos of the fire by looking up no. 4688 on Railroad Pictures Archive . Net under Kansas City Southern locomotives and see the recently taken photo of 4688 restored and back in service this year!

I buy from them (online) all the time.  they are one of the few places that has any of thr original, early K-Line locos and first-year (better than subsequent) Superstreets vehicles.  I have always gotten what I order, fast and accurate, and very good service all around.

Their website is not the easiest to navigate and serach, but then, neither are many others.  Great place to shop!

I fully agree. I have ordered from them in the past and they are first class. I have never been to a train store back east as I live in Missouri. But we took a trip a couple of years ago and visited this wonderful store/warehouse. They had more inventory than any other store that I have been to.

Great folks, and wonderful service. That is what makes America great.

Don't know what else can be added that was already said.  I've frequented this store since I was in my preteens, while they were at their old location on the other side of Colusa Highway (Hwy 20).

Bob McBratney the original owner that passed away a few months ago was certainly an "interesting" ole guy.  He was a former Air Force pilot, and he had many interesting stories to tell.  I don't think the store was never really a major source of  revenue for him, it was more of a hobby than anything else.  His real bread & butter was his real estate holdings in some of the industrial parks in that area (including where the store is now).  He was one of the lucky few who could afford to make it work; indulging and maintaining it now as well as during prior economic downtimes during the last few decades.  What's interesting is that he and Mike Wolf shared a similar falling out with Lionel (both had private, "lively falling outs" with Richard Kughn at York), and for the longest time he flat out refused to carry Lionel which didn't change until a few years ago, sort of like Charles Ro with MTH.  Bob also for a time refused to sell Williams due to his perception of quality issues but now they carry that line as well.  And I think his store was the first, if not one of the first, K-Line Superstores in the nation.

Robert Forren the acting store manager has been with them for what seems like ages, and he's one of the nicest guys you could ever come across, and has been a friend of the family for many years.  I still remember when he used to work at Gridley TV & Appliance when I was growing up, and my late grandmother always enjoyed talking to him.  What many may not know is that he's also a railfan and photographer, and I remember a couple of times he would come to our house with his slide projector to show us some of his great trackside photoshoots he would do at Feather River gorge, including action at the Keddie wye.

Anyway, great store, lots of inventory, and that's not even including "the warehouse" in the back that others have already mentioned.  Talk about tons of trains, they've got 'em that's for sure.
