Yes, York needs to be moved nearer to California - a lot nearer.  Let's see if we can get the Eastern Division to do that.  I bet everyone would be much happier if York was in California.

Joe

Joe, what are the Meets like in the TCA Western Division or the Northern California Division?

OK.....remember you asked for it!!!!!

I think it's too expensive for a non current member to attend.

I am close enough to go.....but the first time attending as a non member is a bit intimidating to me.  $5 for the weekend for the Huntington WV show....sure it's no York I imagine, but about what I want to spend for entry alone after driving a good distance.

Don't complain without a solution right?!?!?!

A trial TCA membership....a one time only, one day only admission to see if the York show AND TCA membership is worth it. You still keep the 'club' aspect....restrict the masses invading.....just a thought.

Or even a guest ticket for attending with a current member......I have been offered to tag along with others going......but cost.....thinking out loud.

Good to know....has it always been this way??? My friend members have never said anything about it.....or maybe it's not well known???

So $12 you get in?? Nothing else?? Thanks

After a few unsuccessful attempts, I attended my first York meet last Spring and found it totally enjoyable and am looking forward to this Fall one.

Not really a gripe but merely a suggestion for anyone such as myself going there in hopes of snaring a previously elusive item would be to have a Looking For- Want to Buy bulletin board or designated area to post a short blurb for an item you're searching for in hope that someone might see it at the show or already personally have it and contact you. If that's not feasible, how about letting attendees put out a stack of flyers for other attendees to take in the same way circulars announcing upcoming train meets and shows are permitted to be distributed?

Just some thoughts on making a great show even greater.

Dave, with all respect, this only makes sense if you have never experienced York.  York isn't 2 or 3 or 4 times more than the other shows.  It's a couple hundred times more than the other shows.  It's the greatest show on earth and it will blow your socks off.  If you are into trains, and are within easy driving distance (it's 10 hours one way for me), please, please do yourself a huge favor and go.  Don't keep missing this, you aren't getting any younger. You will laugh at the fee once you have experienced this show.

Talking trains only......York hands down.

But at Huntington my two grand daughters get to go.....one in a stroller....and my daughter takes all the photos and video she wants anywhere she wants.

So it's apples and oranges(Lionel orange??) but if I had to pick.......see above.

The York Train show is something any train buff should experience at least once.  The major draw is psychological.  It's like a small child in a toy shop--there is so much to experience and the euphoria is high.  To be honest, if you really want something, you can probably find it near your home without having to drive all that distance and pay the admission fee.  But that really isn't the point.  There is fellowship with other train enthusiasts, and one can see some of the new products first hand and not just in a catalogue.  The scope of the products is overwhelming, even just looking at things that are novel and amazing that you might not buy anyway.  For me, I've experienced that euphoria and have bought some stuff in the past. But I am not going to go anymore.  I am looking for more educational seminars that enable me to enhance my existing layout instead of buying more stuff to put on an already crowded platform.  But for you "first-timers," it is a worthwhile trip.

It has been this way longer than I've been a member, and is in every registration booklet they send and on the Eastern Division's web site.  I guess some members don't pay attention.  The $12 is the early registration price and has to be paid by the member who is registering you as a guest when they send in their registration.  After the early registration period, the price goes up to $20 (still a bargain, IMHO), and you can be registered at the event at any time it is open.

There are lots of people on this forum, myself included, that would gladly sign you up as a guest any time you want to go.

As far as York complaints, here are mine:

  1. I didn't go sooner (and I kick myself over this all the time).
  2. Time goes by too fast during the York meet.
  3. I haven't won the lottery yet, so I can't buy everything I want (of course, I don't think there has been a lottery jackpot big enough to let me buy everything I want at York ).
  4. And finally, I don't have anything else to complain about.

Not too bad as far as complaints go, I guess.

Well, I find this "hard to swallow!"

The roll is too small for that.  Eddie, you know for the perfect hot dog sandwich, the wiener has to nestle perfectly in the bun!

Dave, I relish that as a compliment.

And this is why I'll probably never go to York, and like state above, it's too far from the Western states.  In my house trains is a family thing, so if the whole family can't go with me, I won't go.  That's how you grow the hobby, by taking others to see how cool it is, not just going to meet up with other like minded people that already know how cool it is.

Hot dogs?  Are they a step up or a step down from my old school's lunchroom "mystery

meat".  In the midwest we eat hamburgers, and in the west, tacos.  (I lived on

McDonald's trying to get through school on my budget, and don't think I have eaten

a remnant sausage since before that, back in the dim, distant, geologic past)  As for

York, there are some collector shows that you should experience...with the warning

that you will get hooked, addicted, and converted.  York is one for trains,, car nuts will find nearby Hershey an enticement, general antiquers will be drawn to Kane County.  As for moving it to California, I think the population center of train collecting is in the

northeast.   If Cal-Stewart had anywhere near York's attendance rate, and only if

they can get near that, then California might think to rival York.  Both York and

Hershey have their club headquarters in eastern Pa.  I think TTOS is California's

local centered club.  They just need to get their membership and attendance at

Cal-Stewart WAY up...

Those 1/4 Lb hotdogs that you love are made from pork bellies and beef scraps. They are loaded with nitrates, use artificial color, contain MSG  (and other chemicals) and have a fabricated artificial casing. They are an extremely unhealthy processed food, high in cholesterol, and saturated fat. They should re-label the stuff as a hazardous substance.  Instead drink whiskey, its healthier and it makes you smile!.

Dennis, that's what makes them taste so good!!  There's nothing like trains and hot dogs!  As for whiskey, definitely not healthier and it kinda makes me crazy.
