I "love" when when announcer says how the train came dangerously close, as is the train swerved over to the platform.

The caption for the video reads "Sen. Blumenthal has close call with Metro-North train during news conference."

 

The locomotive and the cars are all Amtrak.  Metro-North may own the track there but I doubt it is a Metro-North train.  

This video is wrong on so many levels.

It is often said, that those least qualified to hold public office are those that seek it. 

I had a similar close call when I was about 10 years old with a New Haven train on the same line.  In those days the platform was a track level and there was no yellow line.  It really made an impression on me.   Those trains are really moving fast and they are silent.

Even if he was behind the line, they were blocking access to the platform.  In some places you can get a ticket for that.  Then again, the guy is from Congress.  Above that four letter word:  LAWS!

 

 

 

They probably will now introduce a bill instructing a train "driver" to not "steer" so close to the platform.

The beauty part is, when a train is blasting by, it could pull the dumb skull into the moving train, by suction!!!!

I think that "theory" was debunked by Myth Busters. At the front of any moving train at speed, there sure as he%% is no SUCTION. The "suction" is only after it passes.

When I was a kid and living across the street from the Patchogue LIRR station the version of the "sucked under" story I was told by the other older kids was that it wouldn't happen with steam only with those new diesels. (Another reason to like G-5s)
