I have one of the early Lionel Thomas the Tank sets with remote. It's been working fine for years but it's failed. I put new batteries in the remote. The red light on the remote lights up solid in the neutral position. Light blinks when dial moved to forwards or reverse. Engine does not respond. Also, engine does not respond to any of the sound buttons. The engine does emit the normal startup sounds. Any advice on toubleshooting would be appreciated.

If this older remote works on 2.4 GHz I'd wonder if you may have added anything recently to the environment that may be interfering. Routers, wireless phones, etc. I'd check there first.
