1965 Tad Cody helps usher in the "Modern Era " of standard gauge with his Thorley Hoople line of "old time" trains . Cover photo of the 1966 catalog shows the "Major Belle" under speed sporting conventional deep flange wheels ...which would run well on the standard available tinplate track ...production pieces have brass lost wax wheels with much more scale type tires and flanges ...which are much happier running on the "new" standard gauge Gargraves track also offered in the catalog .
Original set price engine and 3 cars about $400.00...real money for toy trains in 1966-69.
Sets are serial numbered ...this set is #10....cars have the early wood roofs , plain windows , built up railings.
