Our club contingent had to bug out early last night. For us, it was basically a bust. After waiting 1 1/2 hrs we hadn't received our drink order and the manager couldn't even tell us if our food order had been turned in to the kitchen. As we were leaving, tables that were empty when we were walking in had already finished their meals. Tuesday's was seriously understaffed. Last October we were at least served a semblance of what could be described as "food" (in a 3rd world country).

Next October, we'll just plan to eat before we arrive. If there is a movement to relocate to another site, please count me in.

Posted in another thread, our gathering at Round the Clock diner was exponentially (to the 10th degree) better.

Jerry, I respect your opinion, as well as everyone else's. It was an unfortunate situation to be sure. However, I look at it from the aspect of when I got back into the hobby as a 27 year old in 1980.

For 20 years, I was a lone wolf.......the last 15 years have been a blast because of the people.......and, it's worth more to me than a meal or a beer(the cost of a piece of rolling stock in my eyes).

Agreed Peter!  There is no excuse for the bad service ect. Simple solution. We don't go back! There are plenty of other places along the strip that I'm sure would be more than happy to accommodate us. 6 more months to figure it out. Friday's was always ready for us and they doubled all there orders for that week.

I also have no problem having dinner before we get there in a little more quiet atmosphere then meet up with the gang and talk trains over a couple of beers.

As a first timer, I was looking forward to attending. I was just beat, though...  Storms in DFW Weds PM kept our psycho dog up until the Prozac kicked in. Flew over Thurs mid day (and man, my arms were tired...), and just had major fatigue. Glad I missed it, but as Peter says, it IS important to maintain contact.

On on the aviation side of my life, when we have a regional event, we beg a meeting room from a local hotel and just BYOB. Works well.

We bailed after waiting over an hour and not even seeing a waiter. We went to "Quaker Steak" next door. The OGR staff also ended up there and we suggested to Alan that it would be a better place. The management said they'd bring on extra staff to cover it if that's where we go next time. Don't know if I'll make October, but I'm planning on going back next year.

Steve, thanks for posting the pictures.

Under no circumstances will I go to Ruby T's next time I go to York.  Food was n.g., or worse. The wait staff was just overloaded.  Fault lies with management, not staffing up although they knew the crowd was coming.

The only bright spot, apart from the companionship, was that long after I had finished my meal, and had not yet received my onion rings, the waiter said they were out and brought me a piece of ultimate chocolate cake instead.

I ate there one night last York and food was good.  Big screen TVs all over the place...if there's something going on in the world of sports you can pretty much see it.

But the real intrigue of holding the OGR event there would be the availability of the Steak & Lube Beer Tube (or Beer Bong as some call it)

Walt (Rapp), think of the possibilities!!

I typically (OK, always) sit first at the bar and have a quick bite and a beer or 2.  The 'why' of it doesn't matter, but one reason is that the service at the bar is USUALLY very fast.

I waited 28 minutes to get a beer and even have a chance to order.  There was only one bartender!!!!  Believe me, because I was able to watch, he worked his butt off, but the orders were just too many and too rapidly coming for him to keep pace with.  I felt for him.

I also waited 27 minutes for a re-fill.

I personally heard nothing but horrible tales.

Like others, I go there to see forumites.  But heck, I like to have a beer all the same while doing so.

I hope it moves.

BTW: a tradition is broken.   Note the picture of me holding with 2 hands!!!  No victim this time.

Permit me to make one observation:

We WILL NOT be going back to Ruby Tuesday's in the future for our OGR Forum gathering. I can say that with 100% certainty.

The social aspect of the gathering was a great success, as it always has been and will be. The food and beverage aspect was just about as big a disaster as I have ever seen, and I, like many others, experienced it first-hand.

We will seek out a new venue capable of handling our group in an efficient and timely manner.

Somewhat unrelated, but worth noting: On Friday evening our OGR crew was invited to join the Korber Models crew for dinner at Logan's Steakhouse. The experience of our 12-person group there could not have been more different than what we experienced at Ruby Tuesday's! The service provided by the two wonderful young women assisted to take care of us, one of who is named Ellen Miller--she instantly became my long-lost young daughter or grandchild--was absolutely first-rate in every respect. The food was also excellent, as were the multiple adult beverages we enjoyed. It was so good that Jim and I asked to speak to the manager as we were leaving. I imagine that kind of shook-up the greeters that we approached, but when the manager appeared (promptly) we commended him on the the performance of his staff and the quality of the food. Truly a place I will return to and which I highly recommend. One note of caution: They were jam-packed that evening, but they sure knew how to take care of things to the best of their ability.

Jim thanks for posting the pictures.  Ann and I enjoyed seeing everyone, it was fun.

We had pre arrainged to meet Barry and Cora there a little before 6pm, so maybe the timing was a factor.  Our food and beverage delivery was prompt.  Seeing others still waiting to be served we decided to go to "Around the Clock" for desert.

Definitely in favor of a change of venue, Chinese buffet or Old Country Buffet?

I had a great time! I met lots of new friends and the food was ok.  Sadly, I can tell you guys that RT is HQ in my neck of the woods.  They have been shutting locations like crazy, due to their sheer ineptitude in the industry.  They used to be a nice little chain, but they have cooked their goose LOOOONG ago.

On the bright side, right across the street from Around the Clock Diner is a Cheddars.  They seem to be pretty well staffed, have the room, and my service was top notch.  I think we should consider giving them a shot at our business.

Lots off great pictures above, thanks to all the shutterbugs!

We were lucky, Brian and Lynley, me, Steve, Scott, and Paul got there around 6:20. I again quickly found a parking spot, a open table, the food was slow but ok.

I had a great time and enjoyed seeing everyone...we were the last to leave.

As a suggestion, could a restaurant be found that has a separate room they use for banquets & such?

Yes, I believe they would reserve a separate dining area in the place. There are other possibilities as well, including Quaker Steak & Lube (they have already confirmed that they could handle us) and several other candidates. All that's certain at this point is that Ruby Tuesday's is out.

Unfortunately unless the restaurant, any restaurant knows what they are getting into ahead of time, and properly prepares it won't be any better anywhere else.

I've hear Quaker State was an option. I can see the same happening there when they have their regular crowd and on top of that 100+ OGR members. I hate to say this but maybe the informal get together days have ended and its time for as someone else said a banquet hall type setting.

Unless the restaurant is truly willing to devote a dedicate staff both in the dining room and the kitchen it will be like this. The event only gets bigger every year, which speaks volumes to the OGR family, and we could quickly out grow another chain restaurant.

Ill ill be curious to see what the OGR guys come up with. I appreciate the time and effort they put into this great event.
