The Reliant Fire Hall close to the Fairgrounds will be filled with S gauge plus there will be time to visit B&E Junction in town on Market St.
Pete
A lot of us gather around 10AM in front of the Orange Hall to chat and visit. The more the merrier.
Peter
Hope to see you there.

I agree the meet and chat in the Orange Hall (Utz Arena) entrance area is a good way to pass the time. I actually ran into Peter (Putnam Division) at the last meet and we had a great visit before the show opened.
Best thing to do is to sleep.
Although we did not do it in the fall, The hot gathering will be happening again at 10:00 in the Nortwest corner of the parking lot of the Orange Hall Parking lot.
EAT!!!

OK!! What can I bring?
Nothing. That is why the meet should open at 9am. Everyone waiting for Noon what a waste on time. I don't care who can't get there for 9am. Most have been in town for a few days. York is not a social event for me I go for the Meet.

Although I understand the need to provide setup time for some sellers who show up on Thursday morning (probably a very small percentage), I've observed that the vast majority of dealers and sellers in the Orange Hall (where OGR is located), are set up and pretty much ready to go on Wednesday evening. I've long advocated a 10 a.m. opening time on Thursday, with an earlier closing time to allow for more social activities in the evening.
Ain't gonna happen, of course, but one can always hope.
I am an Eastern Division member. I can drive to the show on Thursday morning, and make the noon start time. If the show started any earlier, I would not be able to do so.
Therefore, as an Eastern Division member, I want the noon start time to remain unchanged.
Sure you could, C.W. Just wake up two hours earlier and hit the road!

I am already on the road by 5:00 AM.
Drowsy driving is dangerous, I am not about to risk my life to attend a train show, even York.
I am sure you guys can find something to do for a couple of hours.
Wooden Toy Train Collectors – Thursday, 10:30 - 11:30 am, Blue Hall Atrium
12 works for me.
Harley Davidson factory has a tour. I went maybe 8 years ago. Good way to kill some time.
Like DOC, I go for the trains. But if I ran the Old Country Buffet in York, I'd
have it open for breakfast (like on weekends) Thursday (and maybe other mornings
of York week), and I would pig out and read the paper while waiting for TCA to let down the drawbridge and surrender to the mob with catapults and flaming arrows.
Have only missed 2 times since 1980. I think back then it opened at 8am. I have not liked Thursday at all because of the noon starting time.
I usually get up early, have a big breakfast and drive around sightseeing until 11 am where I then meet up with Paul, Paul and Marty at the orange hall
12 works for me.
Works for me too.
12 works for me also
Okay…we'll ask them to make it 12 noon for you folks who can't seem to get moving early. Oh, wait, they already do that!

Party on Allan, party on.

Like I have been saying since the Thursday opening, It's stupid, they should open the meet at 9am. You sit around doing nothing after breakfast till 12 noon. This will be my 71st York meet.
Personally, I like the Noon opening on Thursday. It means that I can leave my house on Thursday morning without having to get up insanely early and still be able to make it with time to spare for a hot dog (or other lunch as circumstances dictate) before the meet opens.
Andy
There are, of course, some percentage of attendees who live within comvenient morning driving distance.......and all those others who do not.
eddie g - I agree with you 100% Open at 9am. I can leave Pittsburgh at 4:30 am and still have time for breakfast.
There's no question in my mind that the York Meet, being a function of the Eastern Division, is, and very properly should be, operated for the convenience of Eastern Division members. That said, I imagine a healthy percentage of those who attend the York Meet travel a considerable distance, and at considerable expense (far more than the division members), to participate in the meet. I further imagine it would be a much smaller meet in many respects if those long-distance travelers did not participate. Just imagine, for example, the impact on the local economy in general.
If I was involved in the organization and operation of the event, I would certainly strive for a healthy balance that accommodated, to the extent possible, the needs of both groups--local and long-distance.
So what are you trying to say here Allan??????

I'm saying open the meet at 10 on Thursday. I just chose a roundabout way to express that suggestion.
Looking back when they started opening on Thursday many sellers complained of adding another night of hotel etc. cost for their employees/helpers. The opening at 12 most likely saved them and many members this added cost. After some time (years) keeping the opening at 12, seems there hasn't been much said about the cost of the extra night stay and started an extra day Wednesday for meetings and tours. e.g. Weaver and Tony Lash.
Jack
You know what, people on this forum are talking about buying $2,000 engines and such, but they don't want to stay another night in a hotel for $100.

Allan, change comes slowly to the ED. Cell phones, for example. Perhaps this too will come at some point. Now that the ED, economy (we blame that for a lot, don't we) and the internet have killed the bandit shows, it really would be nice.
Otherwise, perhaps Barry could do an all niter for the DCS meeting.

Yes, O gauge toy trains are expensive. Yet folks worry about the cost of smoke fluid, and grease.
Anyway, for those with jobs and/or family responsibilities, its more time away from those responsibilities.

Yes, indeed change does seem to come very slowly. But the hours of operation on Thursday are only of distant secondary concern to me.
My primary focus at the moment--if it was any of my business, of course -- would be directed at eliminating the "no cameras" rule in the very near future. That rule is totally irrelevant and largely unenforceable in contemporary society because nearly everyone now has a camera (smart phone) with them at all times. If the phone itself can be used at York (which is now okay and has apparently caused zero problems), it is kind of ridiculous, to put it mildly, to try to prohibit the camera function from also being used.
The rule makes very little sense today, particularly when applied to an event which (1) could use all the positive and widespread exposure possible to encourage increased participation, and (2) because at least two fine modular groups are displaying at the meet and many participants would truly enjoy being able to record scenes that they might like to model on their own layouts.
But I will enjoy York no matter what frivolous rules still remain on the books, just as I have thoroughly enjoyed every one I have attended over some 20 years.
IMHO, the primary issue with cameras is people clogging up the isles and blocking access to tables as they try to compose their shots.
Oh crap. We're back to the camera rule again. Why can't people just go enjoy themselves without criticizing their hosts?
