Hello!

Does anyone know if the caboose that is on the Lionel Christmas set from 2009-

http://www.mthtrains.com/content/11-5501-1,

identified as a 2800 Series, 10-002c, is available separate from the set?

The only similar one I see is the one with a brown roof.

Also, is it possible to use a non-tinplate ( I know probably a no-no) caboose, such as the Lionel Lines 6-17692, with tinplate cars? I know the couplers are different, but could I put the "hook" couplers on the 6-17692?

Forgive these basic questions, but tinplate is new to me.

Thanks for any guidance anyone can give me!

Cheers, and have a great evening!

Bill,

I have that Tinplate Christmas set with the 2800 red and green caboose.

I doubt if it was offered separately. However,  this one I found on the MTH Product Locator looks very similar.  I think the green is off, i.e.,  this looks lighter than the darker green they use on the Christmas caboose. You could also do a repaint.

If you hunt around online, you might be able to find one still in stock somewhere.

Thanks, John!

That is as close to the Christmas train caboose that there is! I had not seen it. I will definitely look for it. As to my other option, is it possible to put tinplate couplers on the Lionel Lines (6-17692)?It   looks like it has the knuckle variety?

Thanks again, and I'll start looking for the one you found!

Have a great night!

Bill
