Tips for York

I plan to be there when the Orange doors open.   IME,  It's gonna be ripe if it's gets real warm in some of the halls. I avoid crowded aisles.

I always bring test wires and batteries to test stuff. I also bring garbage bags for in case it rains. 

I shower every day whether I am going to York or not. I plan to be there at 9 on Friday. I thought the weather was supposed to cool down on Friday? Maybe not. The app on my phone says a high or 70 and a low of 45 for Friday. 

Another tip that bears repeating is: if you see something you want at a fair price--buy it. If you wait until later it is usually not there. 

Based on the weather report for Friday, a coat and umbrella is a good idea!

I always park next to the orange hall, start in the blue/silver halls and work my way around the grounds visiting each hall twice with a stop for lunch and the OGR forum meeting. Yes, I'm moving and I see everything. Every hall, every aisle, every table. 

Bring lots and lots of cash. Don't depend on the ATM. In my experience, by Friday AM they are out of cash and are not restocked. 

I also like to bring some reusable grocery store type bags. 

I'll second the "take a shower, wear clean cloths" comment.........

Tips? Don't be a cheapskate. A dollar for the folks keeping the restrooms clean is a small price to pay for big boys buying toys.

Don't eat any spicy food before coming to the show.  Or, for that matter, any food that may cause GAS.  Getting stuck walking behind someone with gas in crowded isles is sickening.  LOL

Don't forget to tip the porter in the restroom. Those poor people receive no salary and are expected to work on tips only. If you spend a few hundred throw em a buck so that they can feed their family. 

Dave, is there a specific brand of soap and/or deodorant that you recommend?

Also, remind everyone to not reuse the bath water.  

Some people just sweat a lot. Put them in a warm, crowded building where they have to do a lot more walking then they are accustomed to doing, and they will be very sweaty in a short time. The last time my wife accompanied me to the show, she observed that there was a very large number of unfit people at the show. Now they are a bunch of years older, and probably still unfit.

Maybe they should stay home.

Cleanliness is important no matter where one goes, clean breath, is very important. This is taken for granted.  I would take an over arm OGR Bag to carry Manufacturers brochures, and literature from venders to review in detail before purchasing.  With pricing on most scale accessories, Locomotives, Rolling Stock, being very Competitive, I would make no Emotional purchases.  I would carry an up to date Greenberg Price Guide for referencing my buying at the motel room and make purchases the next day.  The 3 York meets that I attended, I made no purchases. I made a list of wanted items, went home and got with my local Hobby Shop and made my orders.  

Remember, YORK is the best place to see the Actual Sample/Product in Person. You can see trains from The Early Years, 1900's, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's 60's, Fundimensions Era, Modern Lionel and Others, MTH, K-Line, 3rd Rail Sunset Models, Atlas O, Weaver, Korber Structures, Bridges, Scenic Express, Woodland Scenics, So Much to Review....ITS THERE, IN 1 of Many Buildings, Tents, Car Trunks, it Simply somewhere There!!!!

Tell the great Folks at OGR MAGAZINE, Leapin Larry says, HI!!!!

Avoid north bound PA Route 41 approaching Gap PA.  Can be a looooong delay due to paving.  Use 896 ot 30  depending on start.  Your experience may vary.

Avoid the Fairground soft pretzel, a real piece of bland nothing.  If you absolutely want one I left mine in the nearest trash bin, go for it.

Norm Pullin had some really unique pieces, grabbed several needed cars.

Harry Hieki has some nice big and small buildings with real nice fit and finish.  The most real life used/lived in buildings.  Kinda Gorre Daphited, John Allenish.

Bob Lavezzi has a bunch of double slip switche kits (always a sucker for them!)  at a nice price.   Now I need turnout ties....

Scott Mann was very helpful in taking care of some questions I had.   Very personable.

A certain major player/importer had a rather colorful political discourse touching on government intervention but I digress.........

Rich Yoder had some real nice models on display

Steve at Ross switches has a slick touch panel control for TT stop control.  Very nice!!

MTH may well get my vote for the most polished mfg display, extremely professional, very appealing.

Top Dog Rich was dutifully manning the OGR cash register helping process sales.

Miannane Benchwork's powered lift entrance always gets everyone's attention, rightfully so.

Fantastic original RR art vendors at several booths, maybe my favorite spots of the day.

Haven't been out of the Orange hall in many many years so I have no ideas what is going on there, I remember they each looked like more of the same ol' same ol' to me, just a lot of walking.
