I have a new, uninstalled TIU I want to add to my layout. I have three TIU's installed with ID's 1, 2, and 3. I want the new TIU to be ID 4. I know the new TIU comes as ID 1. Is there a way to change the new TIU from ID 1 to ID 4 without incrementing the existing TIU ID's and adding the new TIU as ID 1 ? I only have one DCS remote. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you select 4, for that TIU. G
Hi G, Just to make sure I understand. I power up my new TIU with ID 1 on the bench. Go to ID change on the remote and select TIU 1. Select 4 from the list of available ID's. Go to add TIU on the remote and select TIU 4 ? With all this my original TIU 1 is still TIU 1 on the remote ?
Steve,
No, you cannot do what you describe unless you have a spare remote that you can reset. There are only 2 ways to add the new TIU to your layout.
- The first way is to increment TIUs #1, #2 and #3 to become TIUs #2,# 3 and #4. Then, add TIU #1 to the remote. The new TIU will be TIU #1.
- The second way is as follows:
- Reset a spare remote
- With only the new TIU powered up, change TIU #1 ti become TIU #4.
- Add TIU #4 to all other remotes.
- The new TIU will be TIU #4.
Note that if you delete a TIU, you will delete all of its contents in the remote, as well.

Thanks for you input Barry. I do have both your books, that are excellent. I did find your first suggestion in the books but I'm trying to avoid TIU renumbering since I have a lot of labels identifying which functions are controlled by which TIU. I couldn't find your second suggestion in the books, I know it's there somewhere, I just couldn't find it. Thanks. My track record on changing TIU IDs is bad, so I can use all the help I can get.
If you don't have a 2nd remote, use the Loader program to back up to a computer the one you do have. Then reset it. Do as Barry says to add and reset the new remote. Reset the remote again, and restore it from the computer. Then add the new TIU#4. Then, for future use, back it up again.

Thanks RJR, always nice to have work arounds.
Steve,

I's a little hard to find and not exactly aimed at your issue, however, look at page 234 of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition, paragraph 4.
It get a little tricky... If you edit the address everything associated with that tiu moves to the new address.
If you delete a tiu... Everything associated with at tiu gets deleted. So how do you add the new tiu if you only have one remote and keep the original association.
I think RJR's method is the only way.
Gregg,
So how do you add the new tiu if you only have one remote and keep the original association.
By following the procedure that RJR posted 3 posts above your last post.
Regardless, there's no real disadvantage to increasing all existing TIU's by 1 and adding the new one as #1.
Barry, if you read Gregg's post, that's exactly what he said at the bottom.
As to upping each TIU by one, then if you have multiple remotes, you have to do a clone job. I don't know what happens if you're using WIU.
I found a second remote and updated the new TIU to ID 4 using Barry's "second way" above. Also updating all TIU's to DCS 6.0 before wifi install. All four TIU's are Rev L. I have one serial interface TIU which I tried to update to 6.0 but my old VISTA laptop which I keep around for its serial interface just couldn't do it. Getting a USB - Serial adapter tomorrow to finish the task.
Robert,
if you read Gregg's post, that's exactly what he said at the bottom
So, how would you have answered his question? He posed a question and I answered it, with an additional comment.
He posed the question, actually restated it, and then answered it in his third paragraph.
