Obviously, I'm doing something wrong!

I was trying to load a tmcc engine through the dcs system and think I hit too many wrong buttons.
When powered up, the TIU red LED blinks 16 times.
When I turn on the remote, all engines are now in the inactive mode.
I pushed read and the desired engine to be moved to active and it says TIU 1 not found.
The DCS manual page 108 says
a) no power to TIU (not true) or
b) invalid TIU address in remote:
1.  under menu, system, TIU setup, edit TIU shows TIU 1 (which seems correct)
2.  under menu, system, set remote address shows remote address 1 (which seems to correspond to the TIU address of 1).

BUT:
the TIU blinking sixteen times would seem to imply (see below DCS troubleshooting guide) setting the remote to 15 (0 through 15) to have address 16.
I set the remote to address 15 and tried adding an engine but still TIU 1 not found (also powered everything down and back up).
I, then, tried setting the remote back to 1 (since TIU is 1) and nada.

I found this DCS Troubleshooting Guide on the web site:

This guide, step 1 says to count the number of blinks in the TIU and set the remote to that.

Since everything was working before trying to access TMCC, I'm figuring I screwed up the remote to TIU address, somehow.

I also put new batteries in the remote.

I'm out of ideas (besides buying a new set!).

Unfortunately, it's not something you did. It's a rare, but known, issue with TIUs. It's managed to give itself an ID# of 16, and there's no command that will change it back.

However, one thing that might work is to reload the TIU's software. This should also set it back as TIU #1.

What model TIU is it (look on then bottom for a Rev. letter) and what version of DCS is on the TIU, and also on the remote?

John & Gregg,

could the folks working on the software check for this condition and simply reset it to TIU #1 if it happens?

I don't think loading software changes the tiu address

Actually, the DCS Loader Program, when loading the TIU's software, is supposed to overwrite the TIU's DCS ID# if it finds anything outside of 1-5.

It's worked for me and others in the past, however, I know of one occasion when the individual claimed that it didn't work.

I've been busy and just got back.

Thanks guys for the info on re-loading the software.

The TIU is probably one of the first ones as I have had it for a very long time.

I couldn't find any reverse letters/numbers on the bottom or the remote.

It's getting late so, tomorrow, I'll have to research on how to download software since the TIU has never been updated.  I'm guessing I'll have to buy some interface cords to connect my PC to the TIU.  bummer.

I found this PDF: should get me started:

It's most likely a REV. G (original) TIU and if it's never been updated it's probably using DCS 2.x (shudder!)

When you update it, be sure to do the following:

  • Update all of your TIUs and remotes to the sam release
  • Since it's using DCS 2.x you must reset all of your TIUs and remotes immediately after updating them. Your devices will then be compactly empty of any content. You'll need to reload everything (engine, accessories, switch tracks, etc.) back into them.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
