I have encountered a rather strange problem. I added an AA set of C&O E8's (20-2395-1) w/PS2 to my DCS remote. After doing so, the engines started up, and ran with no issues. However, if I reset power to the track and the TIU, then try pressing startup after selecting the engine in the menu list, the engine will not recognize the command. Any ideas what may be causing this issue?

The product number you gave is for an engine made in 2002. That being the case, the battery is likely dead or on it's last legs. Try replacing it with either a fresh battery or a BCR and see if the behavior disappears.

Chris,
The battery has been replaced with a BCR capacitor.
Apply power and let the BCR charge for 45sec. Run the train around the track. Stop the engine. Turn track power off from the transformer. Don't use DCS to shutdown the engine. Does the engine play shutdown sounds for 6-10 seconds? If not, the board has a bad battery circuit, or the BCR harness is bad, or the bcr is bad.
If the engine plays shutdown sounds, than explain what you mean by resetting power to track and tiu? G
I tried placing a different BCR in the harness, and that seemed to solve the problem.
Thanks gentlemen for the help.
I have run into two BCR issues like George pointed out. Good post as I am sure others may see this at some point.
Marty, can a bench test be done on BCRs before they are installed?
It can be done. I have never done that. I know the BCR is prized by many. I do not use them. I keep a file on my workbench laptop and keep a good record of each engine and when the battery was installed. Older engines all have new green batteries. ALL white batteries should be thrown away and replaced.
