I am have having an issue with my MTH TIU. I used this TIU for several years on a previous layout in PA and then it was in storage for a number of years. I installed it on a new layout in NC about 6 months ago (updated software for TIU and remote), and it has worked fine until recently. The first problem I noted was with #2 side. When I connected an M-4000 transformer to the #2 side, the transformer would short out (red light). I thought it might be the transformer so tried a different transformer with the same result. At that time, the #1 side worked normally. Yesterday, when I tried to operate the system, the remote had the message  that the engine was not on track. I tried two other engines with the same result. I verified that there is the correct voltage on each track and the red light is on in the TIU. Is ther anything I can do or is it time for a new TIU?

thanks, Paul

Paul,

If you disconnect the TIU output from the tracks and raise the transformer's voltage, does the red light on the transformer come on? If not, there's most likely a short circuit in the tracks or the wiring.

If the red light still comes on, disconnect the transformer from the TIU inputs and raise the voltage again. If the red light on the transformer does not come on, there's most likely a problem with the TIU.

If the red light on the transformer still comes on, there's most likely a problem with the transformer itself.
