TIU issue

If you disconnect the TIU output from the tracks and raise the transformer's voltage, does the red light on the transformer come on? If not, there's most likely a short circuit in the tracks or the wiring.

If the red light still comes on, disconnect the transformer from the TIU inputs and raise the voltage again. If the red light on the transformer does not come on, there's most likely a problem with the TIU.

If the red light on the transformer still comes on, there's most likely a problem with the transformer itself.

Obviously, most faults in the TIU can be fixed, there's no need to buy a new one yet.  If you've done what Barry suggests and connected the transformer without anything connected to the outputs, do you still get a short?  If so, a likely suspect is a fairly cheap part in the TIU, the TVS protection diode.  It's a simple fix for any tech.

I did as you suggest and I can only eliminate the red light on the transformer by disconnecting it from the TIU. I will get the TIU checked out in conjunction with my York trip. Thanks for the helpn Barry and Jihn. Paul

Top suspect it the TVS on that channel.  Do all the other channels work normally?

Channel 2 only causes the red light to on the transformer. However yesterday, trains wired through channel 1 (which had correct voltage on track) were no longer recognized, i.e. check track, for all engines on that track,  thanks, Paul

Well, you probably want to have someone look at it, obviously something is broken.  Check with GGG on the forum, he does TIU repairs and turns them around pretty quickly.
