Was running trains yesterday, when for no obvious reason, trains on TIU 3 became unresponsive. Traced problem to TIU renaming itself from TIU 3 to TIU 1. Obviously having 2 TIU's named TIU 1 doesn't work. I attempted to rename the original # 3, 3 again, and received an error message "TIU ERROR" I tried renaming it 4 and 5. Same error. There are 2 independent loops on the TIU, and it is powered with a  separate Z500. Each of the 2 tracks receive power from a Z4000. There were no derailments during the session. I have repowered the 2 loops from another TIU, and have no issues operating the tracks on this TIU.

The troubled TIU does have power, just will not rename back from it's self assigned name.

Jim,

First, turn off TIUs 1 (original) and 2. Leave the bogus TIU #1 powered on.

Then, proceed as follows:

  • Menu/System/TIU Setup/Edit TIU and select TIU #1.
  • Change it to TIU #3.
  • Menu/System/TIU Setup/Add TIU and select TIU #1. Add it.
  • Turn of TIU #3.

Power on all 3 TIUs and observe hw many times each TIU's red LED blinks. They should now be 1, 2 and 3.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Well, I tried to reassign the identity of the TIU again last night.

I wasn’t successful.

I have 2 other TIU’s and was able to change their numbered identity with no problem. It’s just this one that jumped on it’s own, and won’t go back.

I’ve made certain that there was nothing else in the room powered but the one TIU. Tried different power sources, and 3 different remotes, tethered and wirelessly.

This TIU just wants to stay #1.

I had thought about letting it be left as # 1, and changing the one numbered one to three, but am not comfortable with  entrusting valuable engines to a improperly working TIU.

So, at this point, I guess it comes down to either having a MTH repair guy take a  look at it or replace it. I wasn’t able to find a revision number on the case, but I did buy it used off the forum 3 years ago. So its not recently manufactured.

Jim,

Are you sure that it's TIU #1? Can you actually use it instead of the original TIU #1? If so, you could just change the original TIU #1 to #3.

If not, there's a situation where a TIU can lose it's mind and scramble its TIU ID#. If that happens, there's one "Hail Mary" that you can try.

That is to reload the TIU's software with DCS 4.10 or 4.20. They are made to self-correct this issue set the TIU to a real ID #1. Then, you should be able to change it back to #3 by following the steps I outlined above.

Hi Barry, it's good to be back... I've been flying RC airplanes (sort of) and so has out mutual friend Joe Allen. Anyway back to this TIU problem.. Can't help if the poster  can't tell us how many times the tiu blinks or if the spot  he wants to edit the tiu is open.  If  TIU #3  has already been added to the remote you can't edit to that address.

DCS will let you add tiu to your remote even though they may not exist. Maybe this is part of the problem maybe not, need more info.
