Charles,

Remove the 6 screws on the bottom of the TIU, remove the TIU's top cover and press down gently on the small board at the right front of the motherboard. That's the transceiver board.

Be very careful not to lift up on the small board.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Charles,

If you're sure that the remote works with the Rev. L TIU, then the problem is definitely with the old TIU and not the remote. If you've reseated the TIU's transceiver board and that did not resolve the issue, I'm at a loss as to what could be the problem other than a defect in the TIU itself.

What happens if you press "READ", both while untethered and tethered?

As an aside, what software level is the new remote? It will briefly display this when you turn it on.

Also, you should learn the Rev. L's software level by pressing:

    Menu/System/TIU Setup/TIU Version

"Barry first let me thank you for spending the time to help me out!"

Both remotes work fine with the Rev. L TIU so I am assuming the old TIU is defective from new in the box.

Where is a good place to send it for repair?

Untethered=TIU address not found

Tethered= Found TIU address connected

Thanks again!

Charles,

First, don't use the 2.21 remote with the Rev. L until you update the remote to 4.20. After you update the remote, you must reset the remote before using it. This will erase everything in the remote.

If you don't want to re-enter everything in the remote, copy the other remote to the PC and then, after upgrading and resetting the other remote, restore the saved remote's contents into the reset remote.

Contact MTH for the name of an authorized service center near you.

Don't know if this is related but I have one of my two remotes which just doesn't like to communicate with the TIUs at anything but a very close proximity.  One works just fine anywhere on the layout and the other one is "balky" at best unless right next to the TIUs.  It's been back to MTH without any increase in performance.  I've never been able to resolve the issue.
