ONE base connected to the track, NEVER two or more!
Can’t thank all of you enough. What an education. Here is a photo that shows what it’s all for! The City of Denver and an opposing C&NW streamliner at West Chicago. My somewhat too close ground plane wire is visible, pending ballast to hide it. Oh, and about that backdrop.....
LED lighting added to the train is clearly visible: cheap Christmas light LEDs, put in series so that 18v AC gives about 1.6v per LED, each car has about 12 of them as I recall; cars interconnected with mini plugs so center rail power is shared, no flickering. They do their own DC rectifying, of course.

Although I understand few electrical terms tossed around on this thread, there are lots of "dos and don'ts" you experts advised that I did understand and are important to know. Great thread for me to read. Don, hope your nice train works well.
The theme for today is "courage, boy." Time to install the ERRCo board in the 2nd CoD B unit and create the lash-up, so the longer train can come back to life.
And have to try the Legacy 1L base/remote. Wonder if it has updates (other than limited Legacy functions like whistle quilling) that will be advantageous compared to the older TMCC base/remote? One of them: Like that it runs both Legacy (even though limited) and TMCC locos without need for the interface cable between TMCC and Legacy bases. Anything simpler is good!
Actually, you can't use the BASE1L and the Legacy base on the same layout, and there's actually no reason to try. The CAB1L will connect to the Legacy base directly, and gives you TMCC capability with a very limited set of Legacy features, i.e. quilling whistle.

Thanks, John. Frees up 1L base for grandkids’ layout!
Bingo, you just have to buy them a remote or two.
For anyone following thread who is troubleshooting their Pride Lines City of Denver or another with same motor, balky running on one unit lead to inspection discovering somewhat worn brushes. What brushes to order??? Here’s benefit of my search: new or nearly new, unworn brushes in a rebuilt motor measure .180 diameter and about .350 or 11/32” length. Matches Brasseur Electric Trains part # 107TTM priced $1.25 per brush.
