Have friend that has an early TMCC locomotive (he says it doesn’t have a programming switch) that he thinks doesn't’ produce as much smoke as it should. He wants to bring it over and run it on my layout which I operate with Legacy 990 1.5 in hopes he can in crease the smoke out put with the smoke control functions on the Cab2. Does this make any sense?

How do you set the ID without a switch? Item number and image would help tremendously.
If it is TMCC, it has a run/program switch. He just hasn't found it yet.
You cannot set/adjust smoke output with TMCC loco. On or off, that's the choice.

I seem to remember that most "early TMCC" locomotives didn't produce much smoke anyway.

You may have "smoke control functions" on your Cab-2, which is for Legacy & Vision Line models, but it will not do anything for a TMCC model.

Nope.
Actually holding down Aux1 9 does boost smoke output. This may have a puffer unit which doesn't produce much smoke unmodified. You can increase output by replacing the resistor with one of lower value and removing the sleeve on the resistor that most came with from the factory.
