You certainly like to keep things simple.

The more I simplify my life, the happier I am, and this becomes increasingly important when one is entering his elderly years, which you will hopefully experience.

That is certainly a convoluted response! 
But anyway, there are many types of Model Railroad devotees:
There are those who want to be in total control of his Railroad Empire (or at least his sub-division), insisting on being his Sub-Division Manager, Dispatcher, Yard Foreman, Switchman, Conductor, Brakeman, and Engineer. 
On the other extreme, there are those who just want to be the kid who sits alongside the Main just waiting for the trains to roll by! 
I'm in the latter category!
