Bought new in sealed box from Charles Ro booth at York a Legacy 990 remote control system (Cab 2). Just set it up yesterday. Every thing seems to work fine except train brake. I have only tried with new Legacy ES44AC which is IDed from factory as ID # 1. It says in manual that controller will revert to Cab 1 mode until engine options are down loaded. Also says train brake doesn't work in Cab 1 mode. Is this my problem with the train brake and if so will controller go to Cab 2 mode if I down load Engine data from orange module that came with engine? The train brake slider seems to move freely with no resistance. Does this sound like a defective controller or failure to down load orange module?

Sorry subject should read train brake.
You can either load the module or input the data using the info button and scrolling thru the options. Then you will of course select LEG and the remote will operate in CAB2 and the train brake will function. It is very loose and you will at some point accidently lower it and wonder why your engine won't move .
Your title can always be edited fyi
If nobody has responded yet it can even be deleted.
As stated, the train brake slider stays where you put it, and it has very low resistance. It's only effective in TMCC or Legacy modes, CAB1 and R100 modes ignore that setting.

Or you never use it yourself, but your grandson does. When he leaves you scratch your head and say now what's wrong, why won't this %^#$ thing run? I am wise to him now though and always check the brake first after he has been here, but he got me a couple of times with it.
Something you may not realize is, you can use the train brake on one remote and cause the guy running with the other remote to go crazy trying to figure what is happening.
Fun!!
I did not know about that one, that's a good one to know about too. I can see where that would drive someone nuts.
I'll be sure not to tell my grandson if I ever get a second remote. Of course he will probably figure it out anyway...
