I had an informal train get-together at my house after the monthly DuPage Show yesterday.  It was designed to just be a social event to send off a great train friend who is moving to Arizona, run some trains, visit, and allow anyone to bring a new or favorite engine to run.  We had about 25 people and I had a lot of fun as I believe and hope everyone did too.  One friend brought a new Lionel EJ&E SD38 that looked an ran beautifully.  Another brought his new Lionel Vision Line GG1 and it too was stunning to watch with the sparking pantographs.   Friends are what this hobby is about.  Sharing makes this hobby so much more enjoyable.

My goals are to help my son, Jim, complete redoing all my control panels so we can start having some real operating sessions soon after that.  There have been so many changes to my track plan, especially with my new Eola Yard, that it would be totally confusing to guest operators.  When the control panels are done we can complete the installation of fascia and I can get into a major push to complete scenery.

Here are a few pictures of yesterday.

Hey Art:

Had a great time yesterday, I'm just sorry I had to leave so early.

Nice meeting up with some friends that I had not seen in a while.

I did not see it in the pictures above, but the bridge turned out fantastic! For sure will be a great staging spot to shoot pictures of your news engines.

Thanks again for opening your home for us.

Charlie

Art, Thanks, my son Parker and I really enjoyed seeing your layout, he especially liked the Morell Meat and Wonder Bread items. I was very impressed with your track work and the beautiful arched curved viaduct you scratch built. Also loved the parking garage near your station what a great idea!  You've inspired my son to lend me a hand on getting my layout back on track.

Thanks again

Dave & Parker

Had a great time yesterday Art I really appreciate the invite!

I have always studied pictures of Art's layout online and thought it looked amazing, and it was even better in person.

After visiting I have a new understanding of how essential an extremely well planned layout and track plan is. The layout is set up perfectly for having friends over and there is so much room around the perimeter for everyone to stand. Makes you realize how much perspective you lose when your layout is installed right up to a wall.

It was great to meet so many new people yesterday as well. IMG_6341IMG_6328IMG_6326IMG_6324IMG_6331

Nice layout Art. What is the radius of the track on the bridge?

Nice layout Art. What is the radius of the track on the bridge?

The radius is 081 and 090.

Thanks guys for all the really nice comments, I very much appreciate it.

Regarding my track plan, I don'the have one at the moment I can share.  My son and I entered it all into RR software, but haven't finished editing it.  There are videos on YouTube under chugman4 with cab rides around the whole layout, but they are older.  The basic mainline hasn'the changed, but some sidings and one yard have.

Hey Art, Im going to be in Chicago for the O Scale March Meet, got time for a get together?

We are usually busy attending the open houses during the show, but we can certainly talk as we get closer to the time.  Two of my all time favorite local layouts host operating sessions during the show which are hard to miss.

They are on my train shelves.  My plans were to either run modern (Amtrak & Metra) or 1960's, but as you probably noticed I was mixing modern freight with pre-Amtrak passenger.  In fact, I did have my modern version of the local Amtrak Carl Sandburg hiding on the rear-most Union station track.  I guess in my "perfect world" it would be that way with modern freight and my favorite passenger train era.

It's hard to stick to an era with all the cool stuff made.
