In case you did not make it to York, or if you were there and did not go to the hall with the Capital Area Train Layout, this was the most impressive modular layout I have seen.   Evidently this was the first time they had done this arrangement.  It was roughly, approximately 28 ft by 117 ft in size.  It had three levels and they were running 10 trains.  It included the largest bridge I have ever seen on a modular layout.  Several diverse diorama scenes including the Nation's Capital Mall, a Caterpillar dealership, a civil war battle scene, an urban city emergency scene, a metal foundry with hot metal cars, dioramas of Yellowstone, Yosemite and I think the Grand Tetons and many other scenes.  The Yellowstone scene was of a mudpot/geyser basin which would erupt with columns of smoke periodically.  I accidentally wandered in before the York train show started.   I snapped some not to good pictures, but you should get the idea.  IMG_20161020_113658689IMG_20161020_114545416_TOPIMG_20161020_114557259_TOPIMG_20161020_114609102_TOPIMG_20161020_114613746_TOPIMG_20161020_114649539_TOPIMG_20161020_114708597_TOPIMG_20161020_114734061IMG_20161020_114829271_TOPIMG_20161020_114853951_HDRIMG_20161020_114520228_TOPIMG_20161020_114457033_TOPIMG_20161020_114448045_TOPIMG_20161020_114440897_TOPIMG_20161020_114330367IMG_20161020_114405133IMG_20161020_114244234_TOPIMG_20161021_165146214_TOPIMG_20161021_165225284_TOPIMG_20161021_165259588_TOPIMG_20161021_165346454IMG_20161021_165506151_TOPIMG_20161021_165700806IMG_20161021_165820979_TOPIMG_20161021_165826622_TOP

Hats off to that group and a big thanks to them for coming and to the ever oppressed EDTCA for inviting them.

Enjoy.

A very impressive layout. I wonder how they transport that Hell Gate bridge.

The arches break in half (bolted together at the center), each tower goes in a crate, and the approach spans fit into another crate.

Sounds like a quick set up and break down. What's the average setup time for these kinds of shows? Do you store all the modules in one place or people have their own?

I agree this layout was quite impressive.  The rendition of Monticello, the Mall, and other capital-area sights was unexpected and nicely done.

I also liked the huge swatches of good old fashioned tubular track that was in use, but that's just my personal bias.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to set it up.

My wife and I spend probably 45 minutes looking at this layout - boy, is it ever impressive!  Being history buffs, we especially liked the Civil War layout that depicted the battle of Antietam (we recognized the bridge).  We were fortunate to be able to spend some time talking with the person who designed, built, and maintains this portion of the display.  The canon firing simulation was great, the medical unit very interesting,  and the encampment was incredibly detailed.   Far and away, the best operating O gauge display that we have ever seen.  Awesome job, National Capital Trackers, thanks for all your hard work and attention to detail on the layout that you brought to the TCA ED York Meet - it was very much appreciated.

As just an ordinary Tracker, I cannot tell you how much all the kind words are appreciated. Also, this would not have been possible without the incredible hard work of Regis, Justin, Steve, Bernie, and all the other participants. I have never been so proud to be a member of such a great group.

For those of you who didn't see it, here's a video clip of the geysers erupting.
