I will be visiting sister that lives in Ninety Six area of SC from June 28 through July 7. I will have some time to explore on my own while my she and husband play golf. Are there any train stores in the area. Thank you

The closest would probably be in Columbia, SC or maybe Greenville. There is one shop in/near Columbia that I know of but do not remember it s name.
EDIT: I just looked in the OGR magazine list of advertisers and found:
New Brookland RR & Hobby Shop in West Columbia
Train stores in SC are few and very far between. From what I have seen in your area there is a store in West Columbia. The best thing you can do is goggle Train Stores in South Carolina and see what comes up.
If you do not mind the drive, the Lionel Store is located in the Concord Mills Shopping Mall in Concord SC (Charlotte, NC).
That is only about a hundred and sixty miles and three hours or so driving time..

If you’re in the area, stopping into the Lionel store is neat but it’s not worth more than a 1 hour drive IMO. I’ve been there a couple of times and they mostly had train sets, fast track, and NASCAR items. I was hoping that they may have had a random selection of engines or rollingstock from the latest catalog but they didn’t. Their in store stock seems to cater to the mall audience and not diehard hobbyists like ourselves. Maybe they normally do have a better selection and shipping woes over the last year are the reason for that. But, overall I wasn’t very impressed with the store.
A good local mom and pop hobby store will give you a much better selection and more options to find preowned items so you can save a couple of bucks.
I offered a suggestion of in my world a pleasant train venue. I visited last Thursday and found many of the latest offerings, recent arrivals, plus deals on Scale items over a year old ie B6SB, Ten Wheelers, etc. I leave the enjoyment to the fellow hobbyist.
I've been to the Blue Ridge Hobbies in Greenville SC. He does a ton of on line selling but has a tiny bit of O scale in the retail store. He discounts and you can pick up at the store assuming you know what you want to purchase.
Tom, my mother lived on lake greenwood in Ninety Six. When I used to visit we would go to a club layout/train store in Greenwood. Sorry I Don’t remember the name or if the club is still alive. Hopefully someone in Greenwood can help.
The club in Greenwood sc is at emerald farms the club is still there but not used much has a very large layout in 0 and ho she also has a few items for sale downstairs. Drop by tuesday thru saturday. during normal business hours
Thanks Doug. That’s the one. The nice lady would always let us see the layout but couldn’t run the trains.
There is nothing in Ninety Six. You're 96 miles from trains and civilization. The train store in West Columbia is pretty sad. There was a small room over on the right side that had O-Gauge. If you are looking for some tiny trees for forced perspective mountain top they did have some Z scale trees. I have made multiple trips back to Columbia since I visited the shop and it wasn't worth a second visit when I was only a mile away.
