Yes. There is a good one in Winston Salem if you have time to go there.

Thanks - I might be able to do that!
If you're taking the Northern route stop by Todd's Train Depot in Wendell, NC and Tom's Trains in Raleigh/Cary, NC. If by chance you are going to be in the area next weekend the Neuse River Valley group is holding a multi-scale show at the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh Sat - Sunday Nov. 3&4. I'll be at the East Carolina Railroaders layout off and on all weekend stop by and say Hi.
Greensboro has a nice litttle shop too. "Greensboro electric trains".

The Little Choo Choo shop in Spencer is a very nice shop. Lots of O gauge, HO, supplies and books. Its across from the North Carolina RR Museum in Spencer, just off I-85 about and hour East of Charlotte.
Thanks for all the helpful info. Its good to know which stores may have what I want to look at.
I have booked my trip (from London, UK) - the week before Thanksgiving and hope to visit at three of the stores (more if there is time <g>.
Tom's Train Station in Cary NC is just off US 40 on the west side of Raleigh and has a lot of O gauge. My local LHS. Open 10 to 5 daily I think.
Todd's in Weddell is about two miles off US64 east of Raleigh - open from 1 to 8 I think. They have an amazing amount of O gauge stuff. Charles Kuralt would have loved this store, by the way.

I've been to that store before, it's a nice store but the prices are to high, from the times I've went.
If you are going from Charlotte directly to MB then you are pretty much out of luck. Charlotte has ZERO shops today worth going to. Spencer, WS etc are way off the path you would take from Charlotte to MB. We had 3 decent train stores in Charlotte in 2000 but all hobby shops but two franchise HobbyTown stores are gone.
