Many of us, I'm sure, have had that heart-stopping moment when a wreck occurs on the layout. today I had my first when operating two trains on the same track, and learned more about slow-speed operation.  I was distracted adjusting the sensitivity of a 153R controller, when I hear the screech of brakes and the scratching of plastic. I immediately hit the "panic button," and then shut down the power. What met my eye was indeed a wreck, and one which had a prototypical look to it, with cars telescoping onto each other.  As I pondered it, I realized, "I couldn't set it up like that if I tried." So, as the big hook arrived to help with the clean-up, I thought I'd share these with you all.

Those MPC autoracks will do that.

Even if you stick metal trucks on 'em like you did on that C&O (the only one to date that came with them was the Great Northern one).

I had a "stonewall-stop" derailment on a solid train of these when the locos hit a piece of furniture after the track shifted on a hardwood central (a CC without the carpet) that buckled cars out in two spots, one of which the only thing keeping the car from toppling over was the other cars still coupled to it.

What a mess!

I had a similar derailment on my HO layout many years ago. I was running a train of old MDC/Roundhouse 70-ton hoppers, loaded with "live" coal- mistake #1. Put a pair if Athearn SD40's on the rear as a helper- mistake #2. Stepped away from the power pack for a few seconds- mistake #3. One of the hoppers picked a switch and derailed, and by the time I could shut the power off, the last 7 cars had piled up, accordion-style, with coal everywhere. It was remarkably realistic; wish I had taken pictures.

I had a fast freight moving along about.65smh well it was a long train and noticed that have of the train was slowing down. Then it dawn on me coupler poped opened.I got to my transformer and cut the power. But like the real thing kept on going.WHAMBAMM!!The boxcars went off the tracks some were on top od others. As I walked over to the mess.It looked as real closse to the real thing. You know with a chopper point of veiw.I got to work with the clean up.I am shocked that preasure could build up to make a coupler pop open.

OK, this sounds like I'm making it up but Lou Caponi can confirm it.

I was running my Lionel Alleghany around the outside loop of my layout when for some reason my drivers went out of quarter. This would of been a minor repaire if I had my plexy glass rail up, but I did not. Don't worry folks the Plexy glass was safely packed away in it's shipping box.  At lest it did not get scratched stopping my engine from rolling off the table to fall four feet to the concrete floor.

A well balanced engine I must say because it hit like a cat on all it's paws.

I bought it from Lou when he had Loco Louie's so as he did for all of his customers and many of Chris Gains customers as well he got it fixed for me by Lionel.

Ben let me run her at the NJHR's layout and it performed beautifuly.

So in short, I'm the biggest dummy in this thread.
