Pete, I'm not sure where you got your information, but OGR will not be attending Trainfest this year.

Bummer. Their website has you listed as confirmed for 2017. They must be off their game. Thanks for letting us know.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the misinformation. We've corrected the website. Lots of other good stuff still happening this year though.

You might want to double check your website.

Would be great if I lived closer than 900 miles to Milwaukee.  Always enjoyed going when I worked managing construction sites at Great Lakes Naval.  Picked up some great items and had many friends in the Milwaukee and Chicago Rail Road Clubs.  We never set up at the Trainfest, but helped establish the North Central O Gaugers, out of Antioch, Ill. area, and watching the kids eyes and smiles is always priceless.

Hope all enjoy it, hard not to, and have fun with all the other train enthusiasts.  Is this a greatest of hobbies, or what !!?

Planning to go for the first time this year.

Can it all be covered in one day?

Yes, it is quite manageable in a few hours. It involves walking one or two buildings, at most. You can spend more time, of course. These days, I spend about four hours there, but I have been attending for more than twenty years, so there are things I am more interested in than others things. I always take a short break for a brat and a Miller.

The Milwaukee Lionel Railroad Club will have its new traveling layout near the main entrance this year (toward the right side, as you’re walking in the doors). If it’s your first visit, stop by the club and we can help you navigate the rather large hall, where many dealers, operating layouts, manufacturer booths (including Lionel and MTH) and organizational booths fill the space.

The event usually was all in one very large building, the Wisconsin Exposition Center. Two years ago, Trainfest expanded into the second much smaller building, with shuttle service between the two buildings. Trainfest officials have not said why they abandoned that plan, but the cost of renting the second space and the fact that many people never went to the second building were among the factors I heard last year.

Many friends said they went to the second building the first year it was opened, did not after that. Said it was dark and took time to get there and back. They felt bad the folks out there were forgotten by most attendees.
