Trainstock 14 at the NJ HiRailers 1/14/2023

Believe it or not we had lights all the way around in the subway   There were three white lights and then one blue for the emergency phone  We used the wrong voltage and over time they all burnt out with the exception of one Blue bulb which is the one you saw

The PATH train shells are made by a company called Island Model Works  They are resin shells that come unpainted and pretty raw   Takes alot of work to get them finished   The shells fit on Railking chassis   I believe those path chassis were R17's in their first life

It was hanging in the street and I couldn't reach the center screw to remove it, Young lad was small enough to scoot under my SUV and pull the last screw out so we could drive the three hours home safely. I owe these two, and if you read this, Stop by my tables at York, Silver hall B11-12 at the center aisle.

One of the true highlights of my 15-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief of OGR was the time, just a few years ago, when my wife Wendy and I had the distinct pleasure of attending the NJ Hi-Railers Trainstock event commemorating OGR's 50th Anniversary. That was my/our only visit to date, but that is only because the driving distance and magazine deadlines pretty much keep me stuck at my home office in January. I do hope to make it to another Trainstock in the not too distant future. Wendy and I both were amazed at the layout (I also truly enjoyed seeing the Tom Snyder Std. Gauge layout), but most of all we enjoyed meeting and being with so many fine folks in one spot at one time.

The Hi-Railers have a great layout, to be sure, and they host a great event. But best of all, the membership of that club includes some truly great ambassadors for our hobby who are also devoted supporters of OGR. I'm sure I can safely speak for the entire OGR team when I say that we love--and thank--you fine folks!

Thank you Allan. We loved having you, your wife and so many of the OGR team at the club when we celebrated OGR's 50th birthday. That was truly a memorable event.

I attended Trainstock last weekend and I had a great time. I had missed it for the 2-3 years preceding this one and I forgot what a good time it was. I am really glad I went this year. The food was great, the guys were awesome and the trains and the layout were incredible. Many thanks to all the NJ HiRailers for all their hard work in putting on this event. Here are some pictures that I took at Trainstock:

Since I had missed the previous Trainstocks I asked Ben (bluelinec4) about what happened to various items from Marty Fitzhenry's layout. He was super nice and he gave me a personal tour of the layout pointing out the structures that made it from Marty's layout to the NJ HiRailers. This isn't a complete list because some of the pictures I took did not come out well but here are some of the structures from Marty's layout:

Pics need a narrative

This is Martys house  It was built by Alex Mallie and presented to MArty at a party at Alex's house   Thats MArty and Lou Caponi on the steps   You would think Corvettes would be easier to find but the three here will  do for now

The row of Ameritowne buildings were above the tracks in the center of Martys layout

The coaling tower was MArtys

The small power station to the left with the New HAven sign was MArtys  The Coal breaker was purchased from Eliot when he decided he didnt like his layout anymore  The LArge station building in the back belonged to CArl Chancy

This is the back of South street station on Martys layout  The four building in the back of it were also MArtys   One of them is a Dunkin Donuts

This station was Martys  It used to have a Merry Christmas sign on it   We placed it here because one of our members was always complaining that we dont have a station on the orange line    We named it Syville station after our esteemed organ player

In my opinion this was the nicest thing on MArtys layout as it has the name of one of my favorite railroads on it

This is the front of South Street station  The four building behind are hidden and reall cant be seen unless your standing in the cutout there   The arched wall and girders in front are also off of MArtys layout  Just behind those reefers we have a cemetary and we plan to put the names of all our deceased club members on the headstones

The movie theater on the end was MArtys   Now playing Von Ryans Express starring Frank Sinatra

This is Martys wall that was signed by so many forum members  I pulled the pictures in there from forum posts and have everybody that signed picture   I see somebodies picture is jumping off the wall on the left   HAve to put that on the list to fix   The big picture with the frame is Mike Wolf  The glare washes that out

Wow, I was looking for updates to the "Tall Building Tuesday" thread and found this thread. Holy Smokes, talk about tall buildings . Great pictures and a great video by Brookyln Corey. I love the urban scenes, and how they transition to the mountainous Palisades. Thanks for sharing.

At Trainstock 13 we raffled off several pieces of Marty's layout and gave some smalls to other club representatives.  Hopefully these items are living a second life on various layouts.  Since Marty affected so many folks we thought it was appropriate to spread his stuff far and wide.

His enginehouse is on the Bellevue and Schenectady RR.

FANTASTIC!!!    I'm glad you made good  use of it. 

Our club has 3 small structures for our tiny layout in comparison to the huge NJ Hirailers layout that were from my good friend Marty’s layout. I can post pictures after the next time I go to my club. It always reminds me of Marty who one of the finest ambassadors to our hobby.

So last year at trainstock I bought a raffle ticket for some of Marty's stuff.  I figured the club went to all that trouble, $5 won't break the bank and I never win anyway.  Driving home i get a call, you won.  Great, I'll take the engine house figuring i can work with that.  Get a call back, sorry someone else claimed it. Ok, what's left?  Turntable or roundhouse.  I took the roundhouse.   These things are HUGE.  Lacking the space for a six stall building and assessing some of the internal damage I elected to do some surgery on the building.  Now it's a three stall building.  Cutting it up felt like sacrilege but it had to be done.  Since I had no place for it I then had to plan a layout expansion.  So table built, track purchased (thank you charger), preliminary wiring complete, it now resides inside an 054 loop with a three track staging yard.  054 is the best i can do.  This is what I have so far.  There will be no working turntable but rather a representation of one.

That is great!  I'm glad Marty inspired you to do a layout expansion.  I'm glad it found a good home.   

Thanks Chris. I am still second guessing the modification but it works well with the new design.  I hope to have a more complete presentation later on this year.

Hey, even if you had to modify Marty's original vision and work, much better that this live on in somebody's layout in modified form than end up in a landfill somewhere.

@Brooklyn Corey I very much enjoyed your video. I actually watched it twice. I like how you can hear the trains along with the music. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

The first year we didnt have any hat  We did have our friend Eliott Gorlin selling a number of Railroad embroidered hats

Trainstock 2 we did shirts  Dont have a pic of it though

From then on we did hats
