My legacy remote and base are in the shop for repair. Would a Lionel KW transformer be a good temporary transformer, just so I can get some trains moving again.

the legacy is not a transformer.
what transformer do you use with your legacy?
As @BIGDODGETRAIN points out, the Legacy system does not have a transformer in it. That said, the KW is ok provided it meets your power needs. For my money, the Z1000 by MTH does a splendid job driving my Legacy base, the TIU from MTH, and four trains running at once. I especially like the quick response circuit breaker.
FWIW, the Z1000 uses ordinary thermal circuit breaker, the same as is used in a number of transformers. For a fast circuit breaker for command use, the Lionel 180W PowerHouse is the pick of the litter for me. It has an excellent intelligent circuit breaker that reacts both to sudden shorts and slower overloads.
STEELIE,
Pick up a modern Z1000 to operate more of your modern trains functions. As others indicated Legacy is not a transformer it is a control system.
If you want to run your older conventional Engine/Trains the KW is a great old transformer, and you can pick one up for reasonable money.

I use a tpc 300 and a 180W brick. So without the legacy remote and base I'm dead in the water.
Thank you all for your input. I went with the MTH Z-750 75 watts of power.I'll just be running one train at a time, since my 2 and a half loops are all connected. 6'x12' foot layout. The few train stores that I looked at, were out of stock of the Z-1000.
