Stephen:
For your first attempt, I'd say you are a pro at this. Just a beautiful job.
Nice job...... However i wouldn't want to have to walk over the trestle as a brakeman without some kind of walk way. Need a water barrel as well.. so far so good. in fact excellent.
Stephen,
That is one heck of a trestle bridge for a first attempt. I can't even imagine how to start the planning for something like that.
Really a nice job and thanks for the photos.

Really nice! Looks fantastic!

Wow. For a "first attempt" that is spectacular! You must have studied and planned a lot because it looks realistic and very well put together. You captured the almost delicate lattice-like nature of them well - looking at old photos it always amazes me that they were capable of supporting locos but the triangular lattice design as strong even if sometimes it didn't look like it. So too, by the way, must yours be to support that loco in Photo #2.
Does it flex of creak/groan at all as a heavy loco goes over it?
That looks absolutely amazing, great job! What did you use to weather the wood, because it looks pretty dang good!
Very nice looking.
I used a cardboard box that was large enough to hang the tallest bent which is 24" tall.I put a hole in the top of the box 1/4" wrapped a piece of wire that was heavy enough to hold the bent and allow you to rotate the bent. That made it easy to spray. On the inside of the box I put a piece of cardboard in a aluminum tray to the top of the box which allowed me to collect most of the paint and reuse it. The weathering was a gray water base hobby paint once dry a spray of brown. I did test the colors on some scrap wood.
Spence, love the pictures.
Hi Lee, thank,s for your comments. Once I knew the scale to cut the wood it made the project move right along. First, it,s very strong and their is NO MOVEMENT AT ALL. Second, I did the crossing joints a little off to give it some the appearance of sag to age it.
Steve: Very nice work. You did it the old fashioned way and came away with a spectacular result. This looks like a trestle on a layout that Clark Dunham built that was featured in an article in OGR about 10 years back.
Stephen....very expertly done!! I really like the curve and the height...it all looks fantastic!
