3 BBs and only 33 PFEs, Ben time to add your 100 B. Beer cars to the roster.

The big boys are lightweights if it took three to pull 33 reefers. These three pulled 94 loaded hoppers
And these two pulled 80 reefers

Only you guys would come up with a Triple Header!! Good job, Congrats!!!
Man talk about Heavy Metal ! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great Video, Got me a bit thirsty for a brew-sky, Tonight if I have a problem going to sleep I will count Ballentine reefers instead of stupid sheep.
80 reefers now your talking.
Jack
Those three should be able to pull 200 cars.
John / Ben

Totally awesome! Thanks for sharing. Now I want two more Big Boys.....lol....
Chris

Yeah I do but you guys could care less pulling 9 amps up the hill
Hoping to get a 4th in the lash up. Need to test it
we need more power Scotty
80 reefers now your talking.....
.....Per VL Big Boy. I'd be disappointed if each couldn't pull at least 75!

Guess we'll just have to add another BB!
Joining this thread late-apology if this was mentioned-how many amps were these monsters pulling? Also, what % grade is in the helix?
Someday I hope to see this layout firsthand.

TrainStock and the big E are the next 2 weekends, a good reason to head east. 1 Big Boy pulled the 50 car consist all around the layout without even breaking a sweat. I don't see 100 as being a problem for 2
Very cool Gentlemen!
I think that video has just made the DB9 section of the Top Gear cool wall. In the fridge!
Nick
Way cool!
we need more power Scotty
Dilithium chamber at maximum, Captain.
I really enjoyed the original video - where did the trestles come from?

some came from a company called Bridge Solutions, they have disappeared so we formed "silk City Bridgeworks". we now design and build all of our own product. visit us on F/B or visit us in person, TrainStock is next week, come on down.
I ran my Lionel BB, my MTH Big Boy and my 765 Berk as a lashup on the layout over the weekend, looks strange but worked. The 4th Lionel BB in a lash up will probably work fine. But yes Scotty, we will need more power - might need to drop the shields Captain John
What awesome power for a Toy Train Layout. I can only
imagine what the real thing was like back in the day passing
a crossing with three Big Boys pulling over 150 or more
freight cars.
Loved the video.
Many thanks,
Billy C
Ok, I gotta ask. Did they ever actually triple head Big Boys? It is neat to watch though.
I once asked a UP engineer I knew exactly that. He said that drawbar pull on a train that long wouldn't have made triple-heading 4000s worth the effort. He said, "Anything we could doublehead 4000s with was as long as we dared take the main with on the road."
He did say, however, that he headed four of them on a short light move once, to get two each at various points on the road for some reason. He mused that wouldn't been a heck of a sight for anyone seeing them roll by and he'd wished some railfan had caught that move on film.
