This is in the S gauge section so it is safe to assume there are only two rails. There have been no quality issues reported with the S gauge FasTrack since the first run of the R27 track many years ago. I have never seen a problem as I think the OP is describing. If the rail hangs past the end of the ballast then it needs to be tapped or slid back to the correct position. If it is 1/4" above the plastic base then the plastic retainer clips are likely broken. Really need a picture to help.

A lot of people are happy with the S gauge FasTrack. It snaps firmly together, Lionel makes every fractional piece needed for any layout, it allows operating both Scale and high rail wheels, they make wide radius curves and turnouts. It is even quiet with the solid rail.

The problem I have with GarGraves is I cannot run my scale wheeled items on it and there are no wide radius or numbered turnouts available. Otherwise it is great track and many high railers use it. But I get your point Mark.

When I try to connect the last two sections of an oval, one rail protrudes out about 1/4" and the track will not lock. What should I do to correct this and make the track fasten together?

Of these are new or one section is, check to see if one rail is just a little too long. It does happen in production. I take a dremel and after removal of the pin (if in the way) cut the rail back to right size. Pretty simple.

Interesting. I have no problem running scale wheeled stuff; Enhorning F, AM RS3, all sorts of vintage rolling stock, etc. I do get your point regarding radius ("radii") and turnouts...🙂

(When I made my initial comment, I thought this was in the "3 rail" section...) 🤔

They go together when there are just two, it's when all of the pieces are joined that the outside rail sticks out ...
