Truck & pilot frame help

I’m looking to purchase a Lionel sd70mac, sd70ace or sd45. I know the sd70’s have a minimum 036 radius and the sd45 is 054.

Why is there a more noticeable gap between the truck/pilot and the frame of the sd70’s vs. the sd45?
What is a kinematic pilot the sd45’s have? Is that the reason for the lesser gap?
