This morning about 9:25am, a tractor trailer departing CSX property on an unguarded private rail crossing was hit by a westbound auto rack train at Point of Rocks, MD. The truck had delivered batteries to CSX's maintenance yard beside the historic building. There is a narrow 1-lane crossing on the north side of the station that crosses the 2 main tracks of the Old Main Line Subdivision.
A massive response of emergency resources had to deal with an access problem as all crossings in Point of Rocks were blocked by the stopped train. CSX officials came to the scene and moved the train and stopped all train traffic until the injured truck driver was removed. There was not significant damage to the train's engines, and no haz-mat spills resulted from the collision.
An investigation is being conducted by CSX, MD. State Police, and other officials.
