Trying again... on B units

I use my B units.  But I kind of have to.   I think ABA or ABBA look good only if your train is long enough.  When I had 5 passenger cars, an ABBA looked terrible.  Now I have 7 and it looks better.  9 may look terrific.

Thanks, that train looks great.  Does the super bass unit make a huge difference?

I have a B unit for my BN F-7 which I made a power unit, and it pulls a long freight on my overhead track. I would run more, but like you, have not found my roadname available when had the extra cash. 

It is all about personal preference.  AA with 5 passenger cars.  ABA with seven or eight.  ABBA nine and above.

I don't think that is a SuperBase unit.  Ron is our ever present ambassador for battery power, and that is his battery installation in his B unit.  That is why he stated the B unit is required.

Correct CAPPilot.  These are MTH units.  The Lionel Superbases are cool however.  We heard one at Nicholas Smith.  My Son wants to get one for his Reading FA's.

I'm not sure it's worth the $400+ price tag.  There are other Bass options that are much more cost effective if you want to upgrade.

As far as powered units go, a B unit is no different than an A unit. It seems model railroaders have just mentally made them different and feel the price should be lower since they aren't as pretty. I have a TMCC super bass B unit which sounds fantastic. I'm sure with Legacy RS they're even better. I run prototypical consists so if the real thing had a B unit so will I. As for powered/ unpowered, generally 2 powered units are enough for my layout.

The actual and perceived difference includes the fact that A units include a cab (usually illuminated and with figures, sometimes with some degree of interior detail), along with operating headlights, number boards, and marker lights.  less detail and operating features tend to draw conclusions that the B unit price should be lower.
