I need to make a landscaping decision shortly before moving on and would like some opinions. You're looking in at both ends 12' wide each. The layout so far is 12'x28' and I will be adding onto 3 sides later for streetcars and industrial sidings. There are 2 other people who have some work in this and they both suggest tunnels at each end to give some kind of illusion that the trains aren't on the same track.  These 2 tunnels would be between 3' and 4' long and would cover all 4 tracks at each end. Not being a fan of tunnels I'm looking for suggestions like maybe heavy use of trees for 3 or 4 feet at both ends. There isn't enough room to use buildings. Hindsight maybe I should have built in some elevation changes but I chose not to for my own reasons. Any suggestions ?

The plan is to run 2 trains on each loop of track longest being a 16' passenger train on the outer loop with an 8' passenger train on that same loop. So that's 24" of train on about 75' of track give or take a little.

Thanks

Joe

I would not coverup those large graceful curves.  Are you operating from the center of the layout or around the outside ? Maybe a short tunnel at the transition from straight to curve ? I like your idea of a lot of trees.

Center when all the bench work is in place. Largest curve is 138 and really shows off the passenger cars.

Operating from center, that gives you some area to work with on the outside of curves. A nice hill with a cut bank blended in with a short tunnel that is at the transition from straight to curve. Also a little super elevation on the curves would look really good.  So far what you have done looks good !

How about some short of building flats in between the two middle tracks.  It looks like you have room for either a wall of building fronts or a backdrop mounted on foam board or fiber board.  You could mount the back drop on both side of the foam board so it lookd good from inside or outside the layout.

Do you have room to mimic below?

I do have a space. Semi circle 48" wide by 10" deep. I've already removed the Fusion Fiber I spread there and have started what will be a fairly low hill just above the rolling stock. Since the entire layout will mostly flat I'm going with a wooded hill that I think will give the illusion I'm looking for without sticking out where it doesn't belong.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions.

Joe
