Jon. The viaduct is the portion of park avenue that is elevated and runs around GCT. There is no park ave at ground level there

The Park Avenue Viaduct is a roadway in the Manhattanborough of New York City that carries Park Avenue from East 40th to 46th Streets around Grand Central Terminal and the MetLife Building then through the Helmsley Building; all three buildings lie across the line of the avenue.

Ahhh, I get it.  Thanks Forrest.

Park Avenue does extend northwards from the station, as does the built in 1855 Park Avenue Stone Viaduct , as well as the steel viaduct built upon the old Harlem Cut to raise the track level to the new Harlem River Bridge in the 1885.

The cut directly from the station was covered in the late 1880's as well.
