As you all may know from an earlier post, I bought MTH's 340 Coal Train Outfit.  Well, after searching high and low for additional coal cars I just ended up buying another 340 set.  The idea was to keep the coal cars and sell the other components but then the idea hit me: "what if I double headed the engines, how would that look?".  Well I put them together on the bench and I have to say it looks pretty cool to me.  The problem is, if I keep both sets (the jury is still out) I'm going to need more coal cars because 4 coal cars won't look right with the double headed 318s .  So now I don't know what the heck to do.  Any suggestions?

I did not buy the set but still plan on hoarding my 3 stamped cars. The 392E looks so good pulling the cars I used the set money to buy a 85 Race Car set with a huge discount.

Here is my engine pulling the cars last November. Unit trains look so good.

During the show someone added Black 500 series coal cars and they all looked great together.

I thought the train in the video was pulled by 2 390Es and the cars were Red coal cars with nothing said about being stamped. The train ended with 3 517 cabooses in coal train colors.

All that aside the train was impressive. Not matter how you cut it,Steamers,Electrics long trains are great with long unit trains even better.

I agree.  They don't have to be the stamped cars that come with the coal set - I'm not that particular.  Any red 516's will do.  I'm up to 7, once in a while you can find one fairly cheap if you keep your eyes peeled.

I think you are right Jim on the 390s... BUT Frank had 3 sets plus hoppers and one of the originals had a 318 and that is the one here.  I recall hearing that 9-12 of the cars were stamped but I am NOT sure.
