Only about two weeks to go to one of the most unique National Capital Tracker Train shows, the Holiday Trains and Planes at the College Park Aviation Museum, College Park, MD.  website

The Nation's, no, maybe the World's, oldest airport provides the opportunity to see planes taking off and landing while O-Gauge trains run among the historic exhibits.

Dates and times are December 12-19, 10 AM to 5 PM, 3 PM on the last Saturday.

Here's a few photos of some past years' shows.

One of my favorite events - the College Park air field is the oldest continuously operated air field in the world. The Wright Bros. taught the army to fly here. See below for a more detailed description. See Bill's post for the info. Slight correction - we run until 5 each and every day, not 3. The museum tells people 3 just so there isn't a large crowd at closing time.

At the historic end of the air field, along the B&O's main line, several of the original foundations are outlined and some faded/scratched signs are in place. The Prince George's County Police Department uses the 1919 (if I remember the date correctly) hangar for their pair of helicopters.

Traffic at CP isn't as frequent as it used to be - proximity to Washington makes it difficult to get clearance and a long process is required to be able to fly in and out of CP. No more air shows (Air Fairs) are held, once an annual summer event due to high security restrictions. Special permission was granted in 2009 for the air fields 100th anniversary for one last air fair - the "Centennial Air Fair". A new operations building is also finished.

SJC: I got the last Saturday until 3 from the Museum's website. Check it out. I wonder if they are trying to encourage visitors to come before we start breaking down scenery.

Thanks for adding the extra photos. The late Boxcar Bill upgraded my MPC Blue Comet, shown in one of your photos, to TMCC and sound. It will be running again this year.
