I bought a new train set that uses a black wall wart power supply with a barrel plug on the end that goes into a straight terminal track section. I would prefer to set the train up in a circle, meaning I need to get a terminal track section that has the plug on the curve. I could probably cut the plug off the cord and hardwire it into a terminal section easy enough, but I would rather hard-wire the other end of the plug to a curved piece of track so that I can keep the power cable's plug end intact.

Does anyone know what type of female barrel plug I need to make this happen? Thanks.

Ben,

1.) Vernon also gave us a more detailed hint in a posting about three weeks ago.  This photo from his post describes the size of the plug:

2.) You just need a socket that this will plug into, with a couple of pigtail wires coming off of it to connect to the power tabs found under your Fastrack section:

Here's one option, from Amazon, which requires soldering:

There are others that don't require soldering as well.

3.) And finally Lionel 6-12053 to go between the socket and the track:

Thank you! I might try the one from Amazon which requires soldering. Question: is this polarity sensitive, or can I wire either rail to either part of the plug?

I would follow the convention, center pin to center rail, outer to outer rail. That way additional power drops using fastrack OEM components would match.

Edit: FWIW, most Lionel locos won't care about polarity as they run on AC or DC. This is mostly just to ensure compatibility since you are using fastrack and DC supplied adapters as your power system and in general, just best to follow a convention.
