I recently purchased this zephyr on ebay. I have been collecting them since the 80's and this
one has some things I have never seen. Just wondered about everyones thoughts on these things.
First the overall gold tone, it has been sprayed over the usual silver.
Second the engine, I have never see anything like the front truck, but then it is
just attached with a machine screw, so anyone could have done it. Then there is the
chrome ring around the headlight, haven't seen this before.
Third are the two coaches. One has a clip inside on the roof for a light it appears, and
the other has the rivet where one has been broken off. I have other cars that have the hole for the rivet and ones that do not. And i have no idea what the two rubber grommets in one of the coach roofs are for.
Lastly is the observation. It too has a clip on the ceiling for a light. Because of its position above the rear truck, it looks to me like it had to be riveted on before the truck was riveted on. And all the rivets look like factory rivets. Then there is the red lens at the rear, it is attached with two tabs into slots. The slots look like they were punched in as does the hole behind the red lens. Then there are the two marker lights, these really impress me with the way they are done.
I am not sure if a really talented hobbyist made this, or someone at the factory was playing
around with some ideas. Either way it is interesting.
