UP is doing a little change to their livery.

The American Flag has been moved from the engine access doors to the point of the units. The change was primarily driven (according to the article I read) by employees who did not like the way the flag got discolored from the proximity to the engine room. This also allowed Union Pacific to display their logo across the larger mid-body area. Last, the "wings" on the nose are being redone or done away with - I'm not sure which.

Another interesting part of this picture - is that an old tunnel motor at the extreme left or ?

Probably better without the huge, waving side flag if its proximity to the prime mover was discoloring it.

I’d say remove side flags altogether, let a slightly larger UP shield suffice, keep the “Building America” and the nose wings. There’s a lot of room on the locomotive sides and if done in the right sizes and spaced appropriately, it could be attractive without being too busy.

There's too many things on the side. The flag, the road number, the shield, the slogan, and the big UP. Its just so busy.

The nose was better with the wings.

I agree that it's too busy.  I think the slogan should go (although I fully support it!), and the shield go in the center of that area, perhaps slightly bigger.  I think the numbers could be made a bit smaller as well, unless there's a requirement for that size.

Kinda kills the lines around the nose, just too busy. Not a fan of this one

It's the UP's locomotives, they can do what they want...

Since it is so often said on this forum, I was going to comment that it is their train layout .....

I honestly don't have an opinion on the aesthetics of it.  The UP locomotives that come to Phoenix mostly need repainting.  That is my only commentary related to this subject.  I agree that there are more important issues with the railroad beyond how they paint their locomotives.

You’d think they would spend a little more time figuring out how to improve their abysmal service record than wasting time on new paint schemes. The Surface Transportation Board issued an emergency service order to UP due to their extremely slow service.

They are a mess…

Didn't you ever hear the saying "A clean car runs better?"

Maybe new paint makes railroads run better...

The Union Pacific locomotives that come through Cleveland Ohio usually don’t look very good at all. At least the ones that I get to see. They are probably just borrowed power. Usually the paint is rusty, coming off or worn out and always very dirty! So in this particular case anything better looking is a win! I know the one that ran over my Tonneau cover on Sunday could’ve used a paint job!:-(  fortunately for my truck and me my Tonneau cover was not on my pick up truck when the train ran it over. It was improperly reinstalled from the body shop last month and blew off on the interstate. I saw it was going over the side of a bridge. Almost exactly the same time as I got back to the off ramp to take a look for it a UP Locomotive came by pulling freight. I no longer had to worry about the issue of looking for or retrieving it🫤

The 2023 Lionel catalogue may well have these locomotives in red and silver warbonnet on one side  and a Daylight scheme on the opposite side with a flex spring base palm tree "tunnel ceiling cleaner".  Oh heck, UP may do that themselves!

Just wish there was a way to apply real leadership in our rail service.  There are containers stacked up every where needing responsible cross country hauling.  This stunt is truly lipsticked bacon.
