So after analyzing the original plan, taking feedback, validating the plan against actual show scenarios, I changed the design of the yard to better reflect what we need during operating sessions at shows
- More/setup teardown tracks to minimize impact to running trains
- Classification Yard/Fiddle Tracks to shuffle cars to reduce 5 finger overhead crane moves to reposition cars
- Tracks to park ready trains without having to immediately impact running trains
- Add some operational characteristics by setting up cars on setup track, pull cars out of setup track and classify in classification yard, pull string of ready cars from classification tracks and setout on A/D track. Move power and cab if used from house tracks to A/D track and ready train.
- Work the yard from both ends and inside and outside the layout.
- Flexibility in setup (Yard can be as small as Module 1,5 and 9 and be 95% workable) Add Module 4 and get up to 98% workable
- Allow for growth - Modules 2-3 and 6-8 are primarily extension sections
