I have two GP7 Engines that were PS1's after methodically determining that both engines are no good on the QSI chips (After a jumper reset as a last resort) I have removed the boards from both engines. The wires are of different color codes such as Grey for speaker.
I have decided that I will try to find out if there is a way to install a new PS 2 or 3 board into these engines, or save the money and rewire these things for Straight AC conventional and no sounds?

I found a source which will ship sometime this summer for 180.oo a kit, at these prices it would be best to simply purchase 2.0 or 3.0 engines and trim the old ones to straight conventional.
Thank you for the reply, I was researching them and the price quote was enough to make a simple choice to buy new current engines.
An ERR Cruisemaster would cost less if you don't care about sound. Bill at Model Train Parts bundles them with sound cards at a decent price but probably still more than $180 for both. The fun and reward of installing the upgrade is worth half the cost!
Lee, what were the syptoms? A replacement chip from MTH is $30.
I am batting 100% reseting scrambles and conflicts in the memory. I have only come across one bad chip and that was in the junk pile on the work bench. G
