I have some NTE 5780 40 amp cathode stud rectifiers coming; question is, is this a simple install, because I obviously don't want to screw anything up...

Everything you need to know:
Note, you want ANODE to case diodes (reverse polarity of convention) as required for this application.

It's something I've done successfully and I know I'm not half as talented as many of the guys here. I used the directions posted above and just took my time!
I put in a order for 4 of the 1N1190AR diodes. The ones in my first post I won't use, what are they for, the bell sounds???

This is were I got my info: http://www.agtta.com/Tech-Tips...-tip-ZW-repairs3.pdf
Is this the wrong part??
Marty
According to your instructions, they use the more common standard polarity, but at the expense of a clean installation (it is an unmounted floating installation). Using reverse polarity diodes such as the 1N1190AR, you can mount directly in place of the copper disc.
However, I believe if you or a buddy have an LW, the NEC 5980 diode can be mounted just like in the ZW to set the LW's DC Offset to comply with the correct offset for the whistle controller.
So what is the difference between the 1n1190AR and 1n1190RA, except suffix is reversed..
Marty
@Martin Derouin, there is no difference other than the order of the listed attributes in the suffix - same thing.
I got the diodes but a bit puzzled about the hardware that came with it, in the package there are clear plastic type washers that to me would insulate the case from the mounting bracket.. Do you use these or omit them??? Rather ask and be sure before I start this....
Marty
No need to insulate - that is the reason for the reverse polarity diodes. I would not use the provided plastic washers (mine didn't come with anything like that).
As a word of advice, I got the 1n11190AR FROM Digit Key and they do not come with any mounting hardware, no washers and no nuts. I called them about it and they do not even stock them, so be prepared to not be surprised...
