Using MTH TIU Variable Channels With Conventional, Proto 1 and Proto 2 Engines

I sometimes run Williams, Proto 1 and Proto 2 engines on the same layout at the same time. I will be using the MTH TIU variable channels for this purpose. I am in the process of converting all my Williams and Proto 1 engines to either series connected motors (for switchers) or just adding a number of 6 amp series diodes (for road engines). The intent is to increase the starting voltage required for all conventional run engines to about 5 or 6 volts. This way I can always have a minimum of 5 volts on the track at all times for running Proto 2 and Proto 3  using my DCS.

The result of these modifications allows me to operate my switch engines using the TIU at slow yard switching speeds for making up trains. I will then have sufficent voltage on the track to operate my road diesels along the main line at near main line speeds.
