I purchased the LV Asa Packer passenger set that contains the USRA Pacific steam locomotive item # 2122071 in July 2022. When I placed on locomotive on the tracks to program in Legacy it would not take an engine ID #. I checked and rechecked all my connections. This is the first time I ever had a problem with a Legacy engine on my set up. I have multiple Legacy engines and never had an issue. I checked the forums and tried the program run switch in reverse as if it was installed backwards and nothing. The lights on the back head were lit up so I knew the engine was getting power. I separated the tender and the tender came on with sound. I then tried running in Bluetooth and it worked but as we all know the Bluetooth is not the greatest. I next tried the 99 id# and it did come alive as with my other engines. I then did the factory reset with the ID #1. The engine works. Through each of these steps I would try and program an engine ID#. Each time it did not work. So the engine runs now with the ID #1 but still cannot set a "regular" ID#.

Is there anything else I can try? Or should I send it back to Lionel for warranty service or just run it as engine #1?

Thoughts and suggestions?

Lionel had a problem with few engines that would not remember a new ID number other than #1. The only fix was to send it back to Lionel to have the board reprogrammed. You did say you tried the run/program switch in both directions? Some have been wired backwards as well but if that doesn’t help they have to be sent back.
