It is shipping with the latest runs of Legacy Systems. It will most likely be available for download when the black writable modules are available.
MARTY,
If we are registered with Lionel when Legacy first came out will they be sent to us in the mail? Thanks,
laz57
While I cannot speak for Lionel, my guess is if you have the ability to download you could purchase the black module (when they become available) and the software download will be free.
If you do not have a PC, I would bet that you could order the V1.4 modules from Lionel but I'm guessing there would be a charge now. As I said this is a guess on my part. Only Lionel would know for sure. Or you could have a hobby shop or fellow Legacy user make modules for you if there is one close.
That would certainly be the way I would do it.
The one time cost of the black module is worth getting the software updates quicker.
And before the kids in the hall talk of the cost of modules, it's about the cost of a 1/8 jack, phone handset cord, and c-clamps to hold buttons down. Probably less.
marty; theses are some good questions to ask at the legacy meeting at york.
black modules listed on lionel website 6-37125 $19.99

For one? and they state "We recommend purchasing separate Utility Modules for Base updates, CAB-2 updates, and system back-ups."
so for three 60 bucks? sounds a little high to me. I could see between 5 and 10 dollars.
just my two cents.
been availabe for about two weeks;

You only need one really. At this time I would not use them as a backup your database. Back up the database to your PC and other media
To upgrade, using the black modules (yes I have one)when the 1.4 software is available
1) Download the 1.4 files and install the LSU software
2) Make a black module to update the Cab 2 and upgrade it
3) Next make the Base and upgrade it (using the same module)
4) I keep the black module loaded with the base in case I need to reload the base
There is a future use for the black modules , multi engine modules, but that is when 1.5 comes out if I am not mistaken
If these were standard USB memory sticks maybe they would be 5-10, but there are not so 20 is not a bad price
There
You can do an upgrade with 1 module.
The system backup cannot be saved to a module. You can write a multi-engine module (available in V1.5) that would take the place of all the orange and tan modules.
At most 2 is all you would ever need. And I'm sure the street price will be less than $19. Once you have a black module for upgrades you just over-write it fo a new version. So for upgrading alone it will be about $19.
And to have a memory module that contains all your engine "personalities" another $19. Not too bad.

yep, i have ordered three. welcome to the electronic age.
From where did you order them?
From where did you order them?
they are on advanced order from charles ro. i e-mailed to hold 3 for me.
I guess I missed the memo...What is the multi-engine module feature? I have seen it referenced here as well as in the LSU program. Does it allow you to write personality(s) to a black module? If that is what it does how will that enhance play? Just not sure I understand.
thanks
It will be out with 1.5. It allows you to write up to 99 engine profiles (settings) from the Legacy Base to one module.
This will work when you want to take several engines to your buddies or your clubs layout. Instead of a Fistful of Modules (Eastwood's best) you just take one module with them engines all saved to it. When you get to the place you are visiting you can add them to the Legacy system there just like you would the individual Orange modules.
Marty,
There was a question early on in this thread where someone asked if you registered your legacy with Lionel would they be sending you the updated software (1.4) in the mail and if so would there be a charge?
I was under the impression that part of owning the legacy system and if you registered it with Lionel you would receive the upgrades automatically and at no cost?
I have no problem paying for the upgrade just want to verify if what I understood was correct or did I miss something?
Also, how does one tell the "current" manufactured unit(s) versus the original batch (serial #'s?) and does the most current batch have all of the known issues (i.e. battery chargers) resolved in that production run?
I assume the update modules come with directions and we would upgrade them as we did when going to 1.3? If I recall it was suggested to upgrade the base first so that the Cab 2 could find it when it was time to upgrade the Cab portion?
My upgrade to 1.3 went just fine as I followed your suggestions based on the info you provided on the forum. Any info on the above would be appreciated.
Larry Brown
Registering Legacy did give you upgrades to 1.3. Once again I cannot speak for Lionel but it is my impression that V1.4 and beyond will be handled via the free download to the black modules. I suspect though that they will offer 1.4 via module if one really wants it but expect there to be a cost associated with it.
All my impression and no way official from Lionel.
Marty,
Thanks for the info any thoughts on my question about the newer manufactured units?

From what we were told for the LUG meeting yes. I guess that's to be seen.
How to tell a newer unit from an older, the only way I know of is if it comes loaded with 1.4 and the package came with 1.4 blue modules.
