Hi everyone,

I like to use vintage color film from DVDs...ect for weathering as well as color photos.  I have found the film to be a valuable resource for this as you get to see many different angles basically at once.  And the structures and track ect...what do all of you like to do?

I observe the world around me today, since weathering is timeless. A dirty freight car or old dilapitated trackwork are generally available to those who keep their peeper open. Like others I also make use of books on my prefered prototype for specifics about a particular project I may have going on. I also use my recollections especially went modeling building to a previous era... I can recall plenty of what it was like, and the generally rundown appearence of a branchline is burned in my memory ever since as a school boy I ran alongside GE 44 tonners and 0-8-0 switchers working the warehouses in town.

Yes photos are a must.  I was watching some footage of the N&W and they show this Class A go by with the wheels and cylinders freshly painted and the boiler and cab is as filthy as ever....now that was an interesting look.

Bob I do that as well, just looking at buildings, cars and trackwork today is a huge help and nothing replaces seeing it with your own eyes.
