I am in the process of working out the track and scenery on my new layout. I have an area that I am thinking of putting a town in. Space is at a premium but I know some of you have done an excellent job with little space. I would love to see what you created.

Don that is really great looking. Would you share a few more photos and maybe take an aerial that shows how the town is laid out. I always have trouble figuring out how to lay out streets where they hit the rails.
Streets on my layout are made of 1/8" thick corrugated cardboard cut from appliance boxes. The roads are finished in dark gray flat latex paint.

I have used two techniques for city streets, sidewalks, and scenes. The first photo is from the winter portion of our layout where I used street material from Scenic Express and porcelain sidewalks by D56.
Th second photo shows the streets in the other portions of our layout. For streets, I used black asphalt shingles which gives a very realistic look. The seams do not show. This proved to be very cost effective to run a significant amount of streets.

Here is Wabanville, most of which consists of Lionel buildings including a bookstore, Hard Rock Cafe, toy store with Lionel and Hornby advertisements, the Trackside Hotel
(ex Bakery), Mario's Pizzeria, an art gallery (wife's an artist), an ice cream parlor, candy store, and market. I elevated the station to release space for the town, and recently moved the large Hornby engine shed off into a corner for display only.

Little Texas town of "Longhorn Flats", population 41. Town consists of a small general store, saloon, bank, garage/gas station and hotel/brothel (which is located on the second floor). Local economy draws from cattle, Gusher pipe company, oil and of course the brothel.

I'm between layouts at the moment but here is the town I had on my former MPC/LTI layout from 1982-1994. Except for the power plant the entire town was a single street sandwiched between the passenger station and a freight yard.

I think Frank and Don have done some incredible modeling and Frank in his small space, his modeling was so good I never realized he has tubular track running on his layout.
