My son crashed my warhorse sf hudson (circa 1997) and the sound now cuts out While running. I reprogrammed the locomotive and tender to code 740 per the reprogramming manual but it still cuts out. I have the lionel j1e hudson with vandy tender from the same year (uses the same program code) and hooked up the vandy tender to the warhorse hudson. All the sounds and functions work with that tender attached. So I have narrowed it to the sf warhorse Hudson's tender. Would it be the r2lc board or the sound board?

Thoughts?

Physical inspection will be the key here.

I don't think the early units used the IR draw bar, they were tethered.  But inspection of the connectors that plug into the board in the tender, especially power, battery and the serial data connector line is warranted.  G

Thanks. Yes it has the ir sensor. I have completely disassembled, checked everything visually and reassembled. Could not discern any issues. I noticed it has two chips on the board. One on top and one underneath in the chip sockets. I know one is the rail sounds chip. Not sure what the other is.

Should I just replace the whole board? Is it even still available?
