I've been collecting TMCC GP7/9s in spurts and I've noticed that the engines made in 1998 seem to be of lower quality than those made in '96 & '97 and from 1999 on.  The only problem engines I've had are from '98.  A few have problems with sounds- the speakers seem to be faulty- very scratchy and buzzy and the volume level has to be low to run them with any satisfaction with the sound on.  Also, a few have had weak couplers that I have changed out.  I am just curious as to the history behind it I guess.  I get the feeling there was something going on at that time with the company. I got started with all this in '99.  A collection of these Geeps is like a history book of the development of Command Control.  You can see the development of the technology when you open each one up.

That Year Lionel took a $3,000,000.00 hit in their sales due to MTH and other co's going ahead full on quality scale equipement. Apparently Management at Lionel was still in Denial land about going scale and better quality products.

Off year is being too kind... more like being "***** Slapped" by the Competition! HELLO! WAKE UP!
